Hi, I have a pay monthly plan with O2 and want to upgrade my phone to the SonyE K800i, but they tell me I have to wait till january, as thats when my 18 month contact is up then,
I'm sure I saw a forum that tells you how to play the system and get a phone for free, through cash back and contract small print being wrong. Anyone seen this.
dont need two contracts with two phones, the K800i is not on pay as you go yet.
I'm not sure but can I just send a letter to O2 cancelling my contract with thirty days notice and pay no penalty.?

Don't know about the cash back and small print bit, but I'm with O2 and as far as I am aware if you cancel the contract prior to its end date you have to pay a redemption penalty.
You are not only paying for the contract but your current phone - the whole idea of free phones with contracts is they are not technically free, you are paying a bit toward the overall cost of the phone over the 18 month period.

There are loop holes that allow you to end a contract early for free... one being "where did you sign/set up the contract?" If you were at home and set up contract over the phone or via internet you can end contract and not have to pay a penny. Citizen Advice website will give you all the details.
As for upgrading early... best to ask http://www.mobilephoneforum.co.uk/ or similar sites

are you looking to stay with 02 :?:
I work for orange in there retentions dprt (its our job to keep people on the network after there contracts are up)
I know car phone warehouse had an offer on not long ago where they would pay your contract buy out costs if you where looking to port your number to another provider.
If thats no good can you change your tariff to there lowest price plan and just buy out the contract (change your number to pay as you go then port it out so you dont have to go through the hassle of a number change):?:
there are some cracking deals about at the moment (on all networks)
Start telling 02 your going to terminate and see if they will offer anything

O2 use to have a minor failing on the customer service part there- I recall doing that a few years back and they said "ok sorry to see you go" but you never know they may have changed a bit now.
I've got the Nokia N80 lovely jubly 8)
