Title: Missing ignition amplifer ?
Post by: clbarclay on August 23, 2006, 19:34:08
Could this be the cause of my v8 running terrible?

There is no ignition amplifier on my engine, instead there is just a single coil, however there is another empty mounting braket for a second coil, but no trace of an amplifier :? .

Is this completely wrong or are the exceptions which didn't use amplifiers?

If it helps the engine code is
   25D07334B

And the coil is a lucus

Ignition amps. Two types, one on the side of the distributor the other is under the coil. If you have not got the amp on the side of the coil you need the amp to under the coil. These are quite hard to find but.... I have one for sale :)

Under coil type ignition amp with coil £20 + £10 P&P UK

If your intrested call Gary 07774277601 or drop me a message and I''l let you have my details for cheque or you can pay PayPal if you prefer.

What should an amp on the side of the distributor look like?

Apart from the vacum advance the only other think on the side of the distributor has two wires coming out of it going to low tension side of the coil, is this just to do with the timing or could this be an amp as well?

Ahh he says

It all makes a little more sence now, especially as i've now found the relevent suppliment lurking in the back of the manual for this system so a through investigation of the ignition system can begin. Thank you.
