right, due to having problems with my last tdi & also having to just fit a new turbo to my 200 ive slightly lost confidence in the engine, anyway was offered a complete convo kit with a 2.8 isuzu & fitting kit yesterday, just wondering what any ones else thoughts are on taking the 200 out to put the 2.8 in.

hi
sold one of my defenders begining of year had it for about 4 years and that had the 2.8 turbo derv isuzu in it. excellent bit of kit and is smooth and powerfull, i think fair to say better than the 200tdi in evry aspect, but only just, perhaps its just it never gave me any trouble, and all my tdi have little nigles every now and again. honestly though, wouldnot go to the trouble of swapping about the tdi is also an excellent engine and parts are so cheap and easy to get as isuzu pats are much dearer and even the dealers cannot get hold of most of them, plus dont bother asking an isuzu dealer for any info or spec, they blatently tell you to get lost!
so stick with the 200, get it working right and you will be alright?

I had the Nissan 2.8 six cylinder diesel in an earlier 90. Bloody brilliant engine, used to pi55 over my mates V8 through the gears !!
Have a nice exhaust note too [being a six pot]

Well worth considering

Hi, used to own a 2.8 turbo isuzu pickup went well with no problems, its a great engine! just be aware that parts are quite expensive (especialy from dealers!)and possibly a little harder to get hold of.

I did mate aye. Got the exhaust down pipe too, better than bodging one up. Whole kit is *still* gathering dust on the garage floor. Winter project now! Waiting till the summer rush has died down in the garage, it's absolutely mental just now. Scraping dead tourists up at some rate just now!!

The 2.8 Isuzu is a fantastic and reliable engine, the best Isuzu made.  I've driven plenty of Troopers and PUs with them in, but not a LR.

I would, however concur with the general opinion that, It's not that much better than a 200tdi and the parts are significantly more expensive, believe me my dad was an Isuzu dealer!

If you do go for it - see whether you can get part numbers for Vauxhall equivalent parts as they could well be cheaper than the Isuzu dealers.  Also worth getting a genuine UK trooper engine and if you can get the chassis number of the donor vehicle all the better, it will make it easier for tracing parts with Isuzu.

I vote stick with the 200Tdi.
