Having read the paper today it appears that the cars of my youth are disappearing
ever wondered where all the mk4 cortinas are? Ford built over a million and now there are only 2000 left
also there are only 745 morris marinas left on the roads, 745 too many still IMO
-
Saving stuff and restoring classics isnt the same any more there wont be any from my childhood cos who can afford to pay road tax on a car you drive once or twice a month. Tax exemption came back it might be different. It would stop all these folks ringing series 3's aswell. I mean bloody hell after 25 years I think a motor has paid for the bit of road its worn out.

I killed a few off in my younger days
-
My dad killed a marina in the crusher :) Mind you the floor disappeared out of it first
-
makes you wonder where all the70s&80s cars have gone.having said that i served my time on the british leyland brand what a pile of sh**e,loved working on fords, some crouts&frogs but i still love the old mini, mind you they are like land rovers, you love em or hate em.i did enjoy the 80s had a lot of fun.... :D :D :D p.s. still am
-
Theres someone locally who still uses a cortina as his daily drive, and there is 2 original shape granadas around as well.
-
OH tomcat a man of me heart......I dont have the name MINIMAN for no reason. Yeh bring back TAX exemtion but not on them series 3s....LMAO only joking jim....he he. Yeh if a car has lasted this long why sould it not become tax exempt. The MOT test is getting so tight now if the dam thing is still on the road it should have some grace......
Just them gits in goverment would be losing money so it wont happen but its a con if ya ask me.
-
my first car was an mk2 ford escort van fitted with a 2.0ltr pinto engine world cup cross member, bilstines, droped single leaf springs,mk2 rs rear axle,rs gear box,oh what fun that motor was 110mph with 6cwt in the back.... :D :D :D :D

I fit a 1750cc Maxi in one of my Minis now try and tell me that was not fun....12in all round and OVERDRIVE on the gear leaver not that ya ever needed it..... Now that was a top toy....

In the 80s my daily drive was a V8 Ford corsair ,the lump was out of a
SDI Rover, axle tramp or what -7j wheels with Goodyear G800 tyres

Anyone feeling nostalgic for an old Capri? I need a bit of space........
-
Some of us are keeping classic cars going! :)
My youngest car is my 26 year old saab which does 200-300 miles per week (running on LPG) :D
-
Ok, not a UK classic, but I've still got a '74 Chevy Camaro on the drive. Still gives me shivers when it starts up :D
Anyone interested can see more details at http://www.park.nildram.co.uk/camaro/camaro.htm
-
here here.
Given my daily drive is a 1971 IIA. and there is a 1970, and a 1969 LWB's up the barn
Ok yes they are landies but still classics.
I do know of a few morris minors about, there is a 1970 one in the village and it is a really nice traveller.
-
One car they said was still well represented was the Ford Granada
Top cars as were Capris
Its a shame tho that so many cars of that era are now scrap..Always good when you do see some 70's/80's car still on the road..
-
Just been over in Malta, still a fair few classics over there....
-
Good temperate climate
Remember a good fews years back on hols in Turkey when an aged Alfa went past thinking thats worth£7k in the UK....and the CJ Jeeps... 8) 8) 8) ..If I was clued in I'd have brought one back

Anyone feeling nostalgic for an old Capri? I need a bit of space........
I know a lad from skipton who is in the process of rebuilding and welding a Mk2 Escort I can ask him for ya if ya wish. Whats the story with it. Rusty will be No 1. But how long ya had it and are ya just after it taking away or ya wanting money aswell....
He is a Escort fan so not to sure but I can ask for ya. PM me with details.

There was a load of capris at the Leeds steam rallly on Sunday.
My firned used to have one which he bought for £35, a delivery lorry took out his rear quarter window and it was a write off.
The company whose lorry it was insisted on going through their insurance!

My dad can probobly be blamed for the demise of those, he used to carry the CB Handle "Marina Masher" as he was a magnet for them when in the wagon, hit/was hit by about 4 IIRC
-
only 745 marinas left ?i had four  i remember going to blackpool in my 1.8 and my missus feeling car sick, everytime she looked down through the hole in the floor   i was recently looking at buying another ,on ebay but the price went for more than i paid for all four of my old ones combined :?

Had a T reg 1.6 Cortina, which sadly got totally trashed, I did major repairs on it then it got roled in a motorway accident by the new owner. :(
Dad had a Rover 2000SC and later a 3500TC both brought for peanuts and sold for a lot more :) Loverly gars and thats where I discovered the Rover V8, net another one a year later as a boat inboard. I have seen these still about sometimes.
Some of the late 80's and early 90s cars have totally vanished. OK, they were a bit rubbish but where did the Montegos and Meastros go?
I noticed that Capris are all but gone. And when did you last see a Renault Fuego?
-
Blimey, i was weeened on marinas-- i guess if you could get one of those round a corner at speed you were set up to challenge most things,
also when did you last see an austin 1800 (land crab) whe had a very faithfull one of these till it fell apart one day (literally)

Mate left one of them on mum and dads lawn while I was at school. My house was on route and I remeber everyone saying wow and was it mine etc. He turned round when he emmigrated and said we could have it, looked forward to it being my first car but it was sold on :(
-
we had an ALLEGRO until xmas.. lovely motor with an MG metro engine fited ;)
-
best place for some old cars, cortinas and granadas etc is mildenhall banger track :D
they are getting harder to find now, mate bulit a singer vogue for the pre 1970s meet a few months ago, 165 card turned up to be wrecked - brilliant night, sadly his didnt even make it onto the track
some are worth restoring, anglias are cool, escort vans, imps, have some fun the weigh the rest of the old crap in

There's a T(?) plated Cortina not too far from me used as a daily driver by its elderly owner
Plus a Crayford (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/344259581/1379502873047309372rkfLeK) that's been for sale for a while just up the main A-road

Most Montego 'CountryMan' seem to have donated engines to Series LR's
I know someone with a 20,000mile mint Maestro van

GLC 949T Wasnt a bad car all things considered. Certainly better put togther than my brothers S reg Escort Si. I have the feeling the boat engine is a 2.0 Pinto from one of these.

I'm sure glad to say that Mini's and Morris Minor's are still thriving and have huge followings. Otherwise I'd be out of business
Now let me think...... old cars I've owned...
Marina 1.3 Coupe (OK, I know, but only had it for a few months after I passed my test!)
1965 MG Midget (Bought it when I was 17 and still have it 25 years later)
Various Morris Minors, including 2 vans
A couple of MGB GT's, chrome bumpered of course!
Couple of Rover SD1's
Daimler Sovereign (XJ6)
Triumph 2000 Mk1
Hillman Minx
More recently had a couple of 80's Mercs. Built like, well, you know.... but boring as hell  Followed by a 1988 Scirocco.... now that was a fun car. Would easily go three wheeling around roundabouts
I'd like to find a really nice SD1 Vitesse if I could, but I suspect Sarah would kill me if I bought another car right now

please correct me if wrong but i dont think they made a 3500tc?
-
Oh, yes. Forgot the 1971 Rover P6 V8 that I had for several years!
I suppose the V8 could be called a TC, although it never was officially.
-
And when did you last see a Renault Fuego?
And what about the Renault 16? A car way ahead of it's time. Actually, come to think about it, you don't see any old french car these days with the possible exception of the 2CV (awesome machine :D ). Had one of them for about 4 years too!
-
this was my pride and agony ... i still have the burns lol i spent 4 months restoring her and after 2years got rid to buy a suzuki sj
-
please correct me if wrong but i dont think they made a 3500tc?
Depends on who you ask. Allthough in this case I'll put my hand up. The 2200 was the TC and 3500 was the P6B with the bulghe under the rad. I was only about 15 the time though :)
Often looked at rescuing one, they turn up evry now and them.
When was the last time you saw an SD1? I dont understand where the older Renault 11's 19s etc all went, they dont actually rust so I guess it was mechanical failure that did for them.
-
Theres a MINT Citroen DS at the top of my villiage, it's in better condition then most new cars you see.
-
Did you know there was a twin engined 2CV 4x4 ? :)
-
I had two mk2 2.8 ghia x granadas, the second being an estate with manual box. two capris first one a mk3 1.6 calypso that smoked 20 a day and grunted alot, the final trip for that one was around the mendips raceway, she put up a good fight shame about the prat at the wheel who had no idea what rear wheel drive is all about. The second was a 1.6 laser that bettween a friend i sold the car too and myself we put in a injection 2.0litre twincam from a granada, that could keep up with the 2.8s, on the first outing we totally screws the brand new brakes we put on, AP 6 pots and ovesize discs had to replace severly bent a blue originals!! ahh them were the days :D
-

Yep! Fetch around £10-£12k these days. Although there are conversions to make the standard 2CV 4 wheel drive. And by all acounts, they are quite handy being somewhat lighter than an SJ and with far superior articulation.
Think I've posted this one before, but this is my Midget.
-
ever wondered where all the mk4 cortinas are? Ford built over a million and now there are only 2000 left
The front uprights in particulare on mk3/4/5 cortinas are excelent for use in grass track, banger etc. racing and are also used a lot for kit cars  , however the supply has all but dried up. The trusty ford sierra has taken their place, having said that even they are becoming harder to come by these days.
Cortinas arn't the only cars to meet this fate, there are kit cars to suit most cars that are or were easily avalible.
As for the rest of them, they have probably long been scraped and recycled by know. having said that i did come across a pair of MGBs side by side rusting quietly in a scrap yard the other day.
-
My first car was a Cortine mk5 estate, spent the whole summer doing it up/ welding/ spraying etc, great car.
Does make me smile when I see the odd one around. Mind you round here you hardly ever see sierras, they all seem to have disintergrated :D
