Rollocks!
An earlier post by my about breaking down in France described a vibration coming from the drive train!!!!!
I have just read the mud club article on replacing the input seal on the diff, a job which I did before the fateful journey!
I did'nt mark up the correct alignment of the flange and as a result may not have refitted it correctly
Now as the vibration took 1700 miles from this point to materialise, is this error likely to be the culprit to my problem?
Am I likely to have done some serious damage?
If so, to what?
God I love not knowing what I'm doing sometimes!
Lesson learnt though!

Don't panic. The individual parts are supposedly balanced at manufacture, rather than as an assembly, therefore the refitting in the original position is just a safeguard against any wear or settling into position and effects the preload as much as the balance, I seriously doubt it would casue that much vibration and would have been evident from day 1. the more likely possibility is that the assembly has become loose, that could easliy casue the symptoms you have described. Did you tighten everything back up and fit a split pin? if so then it should all have stayed put. Obvioulsly something is amiss but you really need the car home to sort it yourself. The diff I had collapse had recently been overhauled, I've learned not to trust any mechanic I wouldn't go for a drink with ie my mate or myself.

OK well that is a relief. I did tighten the nut as much as I could and did place a new split pin, but as the front prop is coming off as soon as I get it home I will be able to examine properly then!
Many thanks!
