Had to happen sometime!
-
Wow...... never thought it would be an under water creature that got him  well not unless it had been a croc :!:
-
I always though a croc would get him. Expect the unexpected.
-
Only a matter of time before he met his maker, you can only stair death in the face so many times. Having said that he had a wife and kids and you must feel sorry for them. :(
-
Absolute.........nutter and top bloke, a sad loss ................
-
couple of harsh comments there. Top guy, yes he looked like he was on a rollercoaster ride but he did so much to encourage conservation around the globe.
a sad loss.
-
sad for his family
hope they keep going for the things he loved to do
think the world will miss wot he stood for as far as conserving wild life :(

A few news articles for you all.
Steve was a true australian icon, his death will touch millions of people, hopefully in more ways than some comments above.
-
I think most people would have thought it be a croc that would take him...
but as they say expect the unexpected..
i hope his work can carry on through those he has worked with over the years, he may well have been mad when it come to some things but he had passion and knew what he was doing and it be a shame for that to stop, just because hes no longer around.
wishes to the family tho...

Where are the harsh comments then? :? All I see is everyone saying he lived life on the edge, with high energy, and that will be missed by everyone. Don't see anyone saying he deserved it. :?
-
A very sad loss.....the name and the job will live on in his family and work mates.
Good luck to his wife/kids and family.............our thoughts are with them all.
-

Here's tae a bloody good bloke!
-
Yeah, sad loos to the world he did work very hard on conservation, and his stardom meant people would listen at least.
he was mad as a hatter though.......maybe i am just scared of stuff
-
In life he seemed larger than life. Many people missunderstood his energy and enthusiasm. He will be greatly missed.
Rest in Peace!

We'll probably never get to see the 'final footage'- but I wonder exactly what he was doing to provoke the attack? Get too near to these animals and they will feel threatened. Getting stabbed through the heart was just plain unlucky but I guess you shouldn't really mess with dangerous, wild animals. As has already been said it was bound to happen sometime.
Either way his death is a sad loss since he was a great educator.
-
I heard this on the Johnnie Walker show this morning & was surprised by it, he was a 'Top Bloke'
He'll be sadly missed.
-
Amazing bloke, totally nuts but must have had balls of steel.
RIP.
-
Well, I think I'll be raising a beer to him this evening. Totally mad, but did more for promoting an understanding of wildlife than any dry classrom ever did.
One of my favourite websites is David Morgan-Mar's Irregular Web Comic (http://www.irregularwebcomic.net). He's been running a "Steve and Terry" storyline for a while that's both a tribute to, and caricature of, Steve Irwin. Today's posting is priceless for it's timing.
-
Grate guy. He was genuinely entertaining and sincere on screen. A combination not often found in TV personalities. RIP.
-
the man loved his wildlife, a great loss indeed :(
-
"Attacked by stingray" according to Radio 4 news all day.
My first thought was, Steve must have REALLY p***ed him off that time...
Secondly, stingrays don't go round attacking people, all they do is defend themselves from interference. I sincerely hope there's not an anti-stingray backlash from this from well-meaning but underinformed Steve fans. It would be rather ironic to say the least.
-
I was watching 'Crocodile Hunter Diaries' only yesterday. He was so full of life and passion for what he did. A sad loss, RIP.
I bet there'll be a few shrimps on the barbie in his honour.
-
he was an absolute legend a fantastic bloke and will be sadly missed!
"crikey there bloody dangerouse, but aint they cute"
R.I.P the legend that was Steve Irwin!

I went to his zoo, Australia Zoo, in Queensland in 2001, and was lucky enough to see the man himself in action. Watching him 'play' with a 16ft croc was breath taking. He really will be missed, TOP BLOKE! R.I.P Steve.

Sad loss, what shocked when I heard it this morning on Smooth FM.
Their website must be taking a lot of traffic http://www.crocodilehunter.com as its been offline for ages now :(
-
absolute loony,
but all in the good sense, so much passion in what he did and what he believed in, he's done so much for wildlife and the education of us mere mortals.
Thoughts go out to his family and friends.
R.I.P steve, diamond geezer

i must say i had the same thought when i heard, there,s only so many times you can poke/annoy the scary fish/poisonous snake etc before they get narked and have you
but saying that he was an absolute joy to watch and my kids love his programs
-
A sad loss of a unique wildlife presenter.
Trev
-
He had such a wonderful animated style, a certain boyish charm, and was a cracking bloke. I feel so sorry for his family... and also for the rest of us who enjoyed his way of presenting wildlife... what a damn shame... he may have played with fire at times and an animal related death was always on the cards.. but so, so sad...
-
the guy was brilliant.
He did alot for conservation and was a great charector and personality.
Its murphy's law though really apparently he is only the second recorded person ever to be killed by a stingray.
When you see what he normaly gets up to with other animals considered far more dangerous and with far worse reputations then this happens.
He will be sadly missed

About the 18th actually, although I can't find any data since 1996...
He's the second in Australia.

Great guy
After all the possible life threatening situations he has been in to be taken by what was basically a fluke
Our thoughts go to his family
-
I was the second person to comment on this yestoday and I will admit my comments and the pictures I posted were not to everyone's liking, I was still surprised to see them removed.
If any of you who did see them take offence..... then I am sorry I posted them here.
