Title: timing belt change prices
Post by: petergalileo on September 11, 2006, 12:25:13
Just had a quote for a timing and drive belt change on my 1996 Disco ES 300TDi.  Ã‚£411 including VAT and thats from an independant.

Is this an average sort of price ? Seems a bit steep to me.

I'm sure one of the LR dealers is doing it for something like £230.00 under the 'classic' servicing deals.

The labout time is 3.1 hours according to the book, check paddocks for the kit, worth doing while down, not just the belt.

Look around, and try a diesel specialist or timing belt specialist

Locally here it would cost you £150-200, with a diesel pro, plus your parts

I know this was 5 years ago but, I had my 300 TDi done at the local LR Service Agent. I supplied the parts & they fitted them. Total labour £70!  :D

MM 4x4 (http://www.mm-4x4.com/Shop/index.htm) are doing a special on cam belt kits at the moment & the ones for the 300 Disco start at £35 + VAT.

I paid £200 for the Timing belt, serpantine belt and fitting a new core plug, inc parts and Antifreeze from a local diesel specialist

I wonder why this independant is so expensive, might as well say who it was, Mansfield 4x4 at Manningtree in Essex.

I am waiting on a quote from Lookers main dealer at Colchester.  If they are expensive I will shop around a bit more.

Thanks for the prices guys, really helpfull, I guessed a couple of hundred quid would cover it, £411 seems ridiculous.
