which type of map would i be best getting which can help me find some routes to go cycling?
explorer or landranger?
-
1:25000, imho.
The routes are not only more obvious simply because they are bigger, but the 1:25000 has more terrain features on it to help you navigate them.
For my tuppence worth, people buy an OS map because they want a detailed map.
So they should probably buy the more detailed one.

you want the 1:25000, cant remember which one that is :?
-
The 1:25000 is the Landranger.

The Explorer is 1:25 000 scale.

Landranger is 1:50 000 scale.

Personally I prefere 1:50000, there is plenty of detail unless you want/need every hedge marked on the map and they cover far more area for your money.

Not the world's best website unless they've sorted it out since I last visited, but http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ have details of cycle routes all over the country and also produce some excellent maps to go with the more popular ones.
