OK, so who can fill me in on these, as have been offered one at the right money, may require a top end tho' so any info appreciated

naw, shes a little apprehensive about driving another regular car again so is looking at 4x4's to replace the Vectra.

lol, just come from there and read your post ;)
according to them the 2.0 is based on the Manta / cavalier unit..but boxes are ISUZU..could be fun!!!

The only Frontera's worth having are the ones that have the Isuzu 2.8TDi in them, wouldn't bother with any of the others, I ran a '95 SWB Sport for three years and never had any probs with it and got an average of 30 MPG out of it either with a heavy right foot or towing a tandem axle trailer with my classic car on, couldn't fault the motor but did get fed up with the "hairdresser's car" comments eventually, but as it's for SWMBO that shouldn't be a prob :lol: :lol: :lol:
P.S. I assume Wing Nut is joking or he has never used one offroad as they are very capable given the right set of tyres and someone who has some idea what they're doing :lol:

don't touch the 2.2 16v models. Exhaust manifold studs shear off in the head on a regular basis. Head gasket change is a real pain. Top ends cost a fortune - it's cheaper to buy a cxomplete remanufactured engine from the main dealers than a head and cams (cams run directly in the head and are about £350 each IIRC).
Nasty, nasty nasty.

the 2.0 does nowt to the gallon. scary actually a lad worked wi my dad had one, it want any where near 20mpg.......... :shock:

i had to recover a long wheel based one out of a big puddle ,i was driving a suzuki sj ,and struggled to pull him out after he tried following me through ,it was a petrol ,and the alternator was placed under the dizzy .... well first bit of water and ... stop :D

SWMBO had a 2.0 sport, good fun it did about 25mpg and was reliable, gentle off road it was okay-it had road biased tyres.
The 2.2 dti diesels are good we have a 2003 one they do 30-mpg easily and are quite quick.We use it to tow our caravan which it does well.

we used to have one was a gr8 car
so i would say go for it :)

they`re not all bad like someone else said a 2.8 isuzu engined one would be bullet proof. The 2.0 litre was based on the cavalier lump so most parts readily available and cheapish. I haven`t been offroad in my estate
yet but with the right tyres they don`t do too bad by all accounts.
you will be better offroad with sport model.
