Title: Trug
Post by: Edge on September 15, 2006, 20:05:34
Well, i got stung in the sale of trug........ the new owner took me for a test drive in this mint a1 celica vvti, i had a good look round it checked everything etc..... this morning went to shops and had to brake heavily  , thats when i realised the discs are warped. He also gave me a Dell laptop which actually works but battery only stays charged for about 35mins, then there is the 70mph petrol model car  ..... that doesnt start at all, turns out there is parts missing. The only thing that wasn't faulty was the cash.
If any of you guys ever do meet the new owner when he gets stuck, tow him by the rear nato hitch has hard and fast as you can with a kerr rope. Hopefully the xmember will give way, its rusty enough.

Tip, never buy anything sold as seen..... no matter how good it looks or sounds.

A new battery won't be that dear and bits /engines are fairly cheap for the cars and it may not be discs as per my email  -  so maybe things ain't that bad.................................................still check that cash in case it's forged mind !
Sorry Jarrod - couldn't resist that

Well the bank accepted it okay.......
Just wish the guy would have been truthful and honest same as i was.

With a bit of luck his bearings will collapse on the motorway.... or better still someone will steal it.

Jas, i'm pretty gutted, especially after the phone conversations prior to the exchange.... i definately got reeled in hook line and sinker. Glad i Forgot to mention (was going to phone him today to tell him) a thing that needs replacing soon. Lets just hope he's not doing more than 30mph when it snaps.
Anyway.... Nuff Said, ive made my bed as they say.

I'll keep you all posted on the V8 project.

sorry to hear you got ripped off a bit on the sale of TRUG Jarrod, but given that the guy was a bit of a con artist it could've been so much worse, don't forget to look after yourself and especially your Nan, and good luck with the V8 project, we'll keep a lookout for the updates.

...........regards, Jack & Lisa.

Without seeming rude.... you bought/swapped a car that you have never even driven???  A driver can hide a number of things you know!!!

He probably avoided braking hard for the very reason he knew the brakes were shagged....

The laptop.... well, all you could do was believe him...

But why didn't you test the nitro car when he was there???  Or had he disappeared by then???

I've known people get stung in the past, worse than you have....

Just remember you didn't know that person from Adam, and appearances CAN be deceiving.

Porny, you are 100% correct, i should have got him to show me the nitro working  .
But regarding the celica.... I did drive it, all the way from Jedburgh to Duns, which is probably 30miles+. Didnt get chance to or need to slam the brakes on.....didnt think i should have to.... as i checked all brake pads/ wheels for play in bearings etc, checked all suspension/lights/electric windows mirrors etc/ checked for signs of damp or leaks throughout the vehicle/checked oil cap/ tyre tread etc etc..... I checked everything that could be checked without sticking it on a garage ramp and lifting it.
Think i may have sold the laptop.... the mechanic who worked on trug wants to do a deal on it against my MOT/ repair & retest/ and work on this celica's discs inc parts.... i'm not sure how much a dell latitude is worth :?:
Any ideas..... anyone :?:

You drove the car for 30+ miles and didn't notice it had warped discs. What is to say the bloke you got it from knew there was a problem? Also if the car is in mint condition in all other respects i wouldn't say that needing a set of discs and pads constitutes being stung! Just my opinion.

In severe flooded roads and xtreme rain in pitch dark along country lanes not reaching more than 30mph due to immediate danger of losing control

I'll be back i didn't intend to cause offence so i apologise for that. I just didn't think that warped discs was too much of a problem. If he had sold you a stolen motor or a cut and shut then you would really know what getting stung was like.

You quoted me slightly out of context. I wasn't saying that you should have noticed it on the test drive but that if it wasn't that noticable then maybe the seller didn't know about it.

I have not taken enjoyment in "saying it was your fault for trusting the seller" as you put it, but as the saying goes ...buyer beware.

Sorry if i offended you

On eother thing that can cause a judde similar to warped disks is if the bush that the sliding pin runs through on the calliper is worn (you can't always feel it) the brakes judder.

Also try looking at the disk in s reflected light, can you see patterns on the surface?

Hi T :D , i'll be visiting your site very soon.... just ordered some bits for the celica..wheels/upgraded exhaust and air filter, should get an extra 10bhp.... was going to sell it, but after having a nice long drive...have decided its quite a nice motor, just needs discs and wheels to be perfect. Looks like i'm addicted to modifying after doin up my 90
