Not concerntrating i went and put £30 of petrol in my TDI
the AA had to pick me up and drop the Disco at my work place
they said they would drop it at a garage but they'll charge about £200 to drain it
i've drained it now from the pump, (2 hours later   ) filled it up and gave it half a bottle of REDEX 8) 8)
note to self "t*at"
-
£30 is 30 litres , approx.. so if it had less than 1/4 of a tank, you would have been ok(ish) to fill to brim with diesel..guess whats in redex. :D
-
Oops, hope the engine survives

Hi
done the same myself a while back, once i filled it back up with diesel it was fine
-
You could shove some Veg Oil in to provide a bit more lubrication

I ll have the contaminated fuel , will mix well with diesel ECT

Surely putting £30 in however much is in the tank and filling to the brim with diesel will have the same desired effect as it will always be £30 of petrol and a full tank of diesel
-
We put £10's worth into an emtpy tank.
Filled it up to the brim with Derv and it ran a bit ough for a couple of days.
Keeped filling it up with more derv and all was well.

i think the supermarkets are doing 89.9p but our (quite expensive local) is 93.9p which was over £1 last month
-
Sainsbury's Rugby.... 86.9!
:D :D :D :D :D

for diesel or petrol?
I have a vehicle that runs on each!!! Grrrr I cant siphen from one to the other
Where is the cheapest diesel? Lowest I have seen is Tesco at 89/90p a litre.
I think we have high jacked this thread. oops.
Do the mods want to start a new topic on petrol prices :?:
-
£30 of petrol would be too high a ratio to risk starting even after brimming with derv. Most people recommend a maximun ratio of 1:5 and even that would be risky, that amount was approx half a tank full.
-
Years ago(about 20)we used to put 2 gallon of petrol in the diesel tank of the wagons to stop the diesel freezing up in the winter.Pete(we also used to go to bed before we got up and had to lick streets clean with us tounges  )

I think it's 12p a litre for the fuel - the rest is Tax and VAT

A friend of mine did the same with his 110, but put over £80 worth of petrol in (full tank less the dregs of diesel that were left). He then drove it about 10 miles before spluttering to a halt in the middle of nowhere (Burnage nr end of Stanage) He managed to swerve into the car park as the engine cut out, then he spent a few minutes wondering why, rang the AA then the look of sudden realisation on his face was hilarious
He'd been driving his other halfs petrol corsa around all week and got into the habit of picking the petrol pump up!!. Cost him about £800 but he was back on the road later the same day, which was good as he was towing the trailer full of the camping equipment.
-
:D petrol 84.9 tesco but still getting our gas for 35.9 in corby

Petrol/diesel mix is apparently very good in a space heater. One of my mates was always having to rescue company cars that had suffered that fate and as a favour to them he didn't charge for disposing of the contaminated fuel. Guess what his heater ran on
-
I dont know why it wasnt made standard from day 1 that petrol cars had say a triangular filler neck and pump nozzle and diesel cars had round ones so that each nozzle couldnt be put into the wrong cars.
Only an idea
-
You can't put diesel into a modern petrol car as the nozzle won't go in but you can put petrol into a 1 week old company diesel as I found out to my cost when I took delivery of a one a couple of years ago.
Thankfully I realized before I drove it so I pushed it off the pump, rang my neighbour to fetch me, put the car trailer on the back of the Disco and went and winched the company car onto the trailer.
Brought it home, drained the tank and then took it to the garage on the trailer and filled it with diesel.
Never told the company.
My next mistake was to but the contaminated petrol in my Disco  (tight git or what)
Three sets of 8 plugs later the dam thing ran ok again

thank god that gas connections are different thats all i can say
but you would think garages could do more ? to make matters worse was the fact that the filler for the petrol had a black promotion sticker on it so at a glance it looked like a diesel pump :x :x
