Post by: muckmoses on September 22, 2006, 09:49:25
Hi

A friend of mine has asked me about buying a Freelander.
Being a Defender personI have very little knowledge of Land Rovers baby vehicle and would like to impose on your experiences.

He's looking to spend around £7K

Can you give me any feed back on problems/recalls and the like.

Why not go for a slightly older Disco? for £7k Autotrader turns up a couple of TD4s, 1.8s (K series  ) and a couple of V6s. Not saying they are bad cars, but in reality a 200tdi Disco would be a LOT better.

That depends on what he wants to do with it

I was about to say the same thing! If I wanted a vehicle that was capable around fields, but could thrash along motorways for long distances, I'd go for the Freebie. If I wanted something for more aggresive off road use, I'd look elsewhere.

Always advisable to go for a TD4 if the money stretches that far. On the earlier TD4, lift the fuse box lid on the passenger side of the engine bay and see if it has a white paint dot insode the lid. There was a wiring issue under the box and this shows it has been recalled and corrected.

On 3 door models, check for water ingress in the boot floor cubby box. Also, check the rear screen heater works properly. The wind down rear window rubs it off eventually.
