Post by: winchman on September 23, 2006, 13:44:07
What do people know about tracing family history via military records?
Winchwoman is tracing her family history but wants to know more about 1 member who was discharged by the army, after severe motor bike accident some time between 1935 ish to 1949.

do you know what regiment this person was inlisted with, if you do you can get in touch with the imperial war museum in london . even if you dont know the regiment they still might be able to help. each regiment will have its own records of inlisted men. cheers muddytubbie

You can write to the army records office, but you need a letter off the oldest suriving child to get any information from them.

Also you have to pay for it but it is worth it.

My sister in law has just got her grandfathers information and she had to get a letter off her mother.

Hope this helps.
