Hi All,
Since Richard Hammond's crash on Wednesday 20th September, numerous politicians, action groups and random people in the street have called for Top Gear to be pulled off the air at last, stating that it sets a bad influence.
Jeremy Clarkson has written an article here:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006440317,00.html
In it he states that Hammond did get training, and that it looks like the main cause of the accident was a burst tyre (which, obviously, no one can prepare for) AND he says that Hammond knew the risks and still went for it.
Now I'm sure most of you mud-clubbers enjoy your weekly dose of Top Gear and would hate to see it made into some politically correct nonsense designed to promote "safe and sensible driving" with average cars being driven at average speeds - wouldn't that be entertaining?!
Almost 5000 signatures so far (since yesterday)

Cheers,
Brother Ted.
PS. This is also worth a visit: http://www.justgiving.com/PHRichardHammond its a fund set-up for the air ambulance that took Hammond to hospital. In the last 3 days they've raised over £130,000 through this page..

I'd be -very- surprised if they cancelled Top Gear altogether - it has one of the highest audience numbers of any show on the Beeb, regardless of frumpy MP and enviro-hippy complaints.
-
I agree but they could try to change the format. Why? I agree there are bits that are dangerous (Hampsters accident proves that), but they are all consenting adults that are not stupid enough to think there is no risk.
I worry that one day a consenting adult with the correct information will not have a choice!

Top Gear is the highest rating programme on BBC2.
Not that they would ever cancel it, maybe just be a bit *less* risky

So will we be going back to the days of Angela Rippon, Noel Edmunds & William Woollard?? :(scared):

Even if BBC dropped it SKY would snap it up without any compunction, and then things could be funny, they could get away with so much more of the stuff we all watch it for religiously every week.

CLARKSON, MAY AND HAMMOND ALL HAVE THAT INCREDIBLY BRITISH ABILITY TO LAUGH AT THEMSELVES, KEEP THEM ON THE AIR.
WE'VE LOST SO MANY THINGS TO THE DO-GOODERS OVER THE YEARS LET'S NOT SEE ANOTHER NATIONAL INSTITUTION DISAPPEAR!
