Title: Mud eating Rads

On my few trips to the club at Aldermaston my rad seems to eat mud and then stay within the bowels on the fins.
Does anyone fit a cover to prevent this? I have changed the rad that the 90 came with as already shagged, but don't want to kill another, it isn't too bad when very wet but when you get that nice stciky summer mud it can kill it quickly as it dries.
Guess you can't cover completely or no air flow, but thought there would be a recommended solution.
Any advise before I just put a tesco's bag on the front grill  :lol:

Don't drive so fast through the wet mud  :lol:

I asked this a year or so ago, but there is no real easy answer other than sliding a bit of card in front of the rad before entering the mire and removing it afterwards. The card approach is cheap but you need a good supply of it each time! Otherwise a sheet of thin plywood maybe?

Since wrecking 3 radiators, I have just come to the conclusion I have to simply drive more cautiously in these conditions and I've never had a problem since. The rad just doesn't get as muddy.

Try an old pair of tights, new or clean ones are best i feel. :wink:
Buy or obtain a size for the more curvacious ladies and stretch the main body part over the grille. It allows air to circulate but stops the mud. When your done just rip them off, otherwise they kill the tops of your legs, or is that stockings :?:  :?:  :wink:

A fine metal mesh behind your plastic one will help to keep it down, also if it fills up a back flush with a hose pipe from the inside pushing the muck out the way it came in if favourable, I have an old stirrup pump and canvas bucket i take out, also the rad cover round the fan is better out than in for this job

common problem this I have recently been to frickley twas very muddy and wet so i fitted my rad blind alas it was no help as when in the deeper sections of muddy pools the mud gets into your rad from the back as the engine bay fills up with muddy water, so despite having a blind fitted all day I still found my landy overheating on the way home and  i spent 2hrs washing the mud out with a hose pipe  :(

Short answer is I dont know what can be done to stop this problem....

or if you do want to play in the mud,do it before it turns to slurry
