Anyone tell me what size the nuts are on the rear prop shaft going on to the brake unit, Defender 90 on F plate, it's not 14mm
And I'm guessing I need an imperial set of spanners now as well..
-
They're 9/16th's on my Disco - the generic prop shaft socket that Difflock and others sell is 9/16th too so I'd say they're all 9/16!
-
9/16 AF.

14mm will go on, but its a bit of a struggle - much easier with a 9/16.
-
Was 9/16 on my SerieesIII and is 9/16 on my 90. I even have a 9/16 spanner with a bit ground off of it to make it possible to get a full 1/4 turn on the nut without having to reverse the spanner!

you've probably got the idea by now... 9/16 AF

Cheers all, guess I need a 9/16 spanner now, best buy the complete set though just in case I find some more
-
You will, its a Land Rover.
I think there is probably even some Whitworth stuff buried in there somewhere.

I'm usually amazed when I find 2 bolts the same in it, so it's a wise choice.

....or get a prop nut tool
I invested in one when I bought my last set of UJ's...... It's not perfect, but it sure makes life a whole lot easier :D

And there was me thinking it was just another one of those tools that never exists but can make people go to the ends of the earth to find...
Guys at Safari Engineering just used a 9/16 on a wobbly to get mine off

I brought one of those propshaft tools, and cant recomend them enough, although can be done with short sockets n wobblies ect, its easy just to use a dedicated tool for the job, so reckons me anyhow
