Looks like some sort of hydraulic pump, I can tell you its not for anything up to 1999 as far as I know.

Any ideas ?

Looks like a power steering pump to me. I've just fitted an early Hoburn-Eaton one to my 110. Looks similar, but the ports are in different locations.

Whats on the tag?

Tag says 71940 theres a riveted plate on it which says 5503 08518

It has 3 inlets or outlets two are next to each other on is on the top.

I cant see its a hydraulic motor why have 3 inlets/oulets ?

A PS pump might have 3 ports. One for the feed from the reservoir, then a feed to the box and the return from the box.

Mine has the reservoir feeding to the box though and only 2 ports on the pump.

Can you give us an idea of size? Wots the diameter of the ports with the red bungs in them? And how about length and dia. of the shaft?

S.

Mechanically there is no difference between a Hydraulic Pump and a Hydraulic motor.

Have you checked to see if any of the ports are connected? It is common to have one of the connections with an option to connect to two differnet places, the ohter would usually be plugged. It just gives more options for fitting.

Its a new item, it was in a box of land rover bits I bought.  The connections are definately hydraulic couplings.

The item that mad geordie is on about is a pressure regulator. You'll find it on a lot of high end saloons and most modern cars. The actuator is connected via a link to the beam axle or torsion bar, as the car brakes the pressure to the rear wheels is backed off to prevent a lock-up as the pressure on the road decreases. The zook has one, the audi does and I think the clio and pug to too. Butits only a small item, bout the size of a pack of ciggies.
