Title: Dim/dip question
Post by: simondarby on October 07, 2006, 20:58:42
Hi all...

I have a 1995 300tdi Disco.  Up until recently, my headlamps used to do the following (with ignition on and engine running):

Twist light switch stalk to 1st position and main halogen bulbs come on dimly and sidelights bulb iluminate. twist to second position and main bulbs come on fully and sidelight bulbs remain light.  Pull light switch towards me for main beam.  All worked fine...

Now however, when I twist light switch stalk to 1st position only the sidelight bulbs come on

Checked the handbook and Haynes manual and replaced the fuses listed and they are all OK.

Is there something else I can check?

Your help, as ever is much appreciated.

Si

There is a dimdip relay somewhere and I'd bet it's playing up.

I assume you the lights come on properly on the second position (different relay).

Yes, the only thing that doesn't work is that 1st position...

The dim/dip resistor on the 300 Disco is on the bulkhead near the washer bottle. It's on a plate with a gold coloured resistor on it that measures about 1/2" x 2" & is part No XBL10004L.
The relay is in the passenger footwell on a hinged bracket (according to the LR Parts Manual) and is part No YWB10027L and yellow in colour.
Carefull though as they used the same relay for the ABS, Air-con fans & power wash and they are all stored together!!

Take some photos if you find them.

Or just leave the thing alone as dim-dip is not that good for the bulbs.
