Looking at getting a V6 Vitara for a bit of greenlaning, i had a quick look at one yesterday and was wondering if there is anything special i should check for?
Thanks

Give me the engine in return for a well used 1.6 Carb?

Rattling cam chains - that's about all I can think of at the moment :)

				Cheers lads
Would the cam chains be a big problem?

Would the cam chains be a big problem?
They are more reliable than rubber belts but if they are rattling it might be advisable to check the tensioners and/or replace the chains :)

Right got the vit, now got to convince the better half it needs m/t tyres, for a bit of laning with the kids:wink:
What size can i get away with without doing a suspension lift?
I need to do the mods in stages, until she says your not doing that to my vit go and get a another one to play with :)

for cheap simple lifts get in touch with dave jones @ http://www.bits4vits.com
he does a subtle lift the wife wont notice :troll:

Yeh i have seen and read about the bits he does, they look good.
I was looking at just getting some tyres on first to give a extra bit of ground clearance, and go from there.

It's a false economy buying tyres first.  Get it lifted, then buy tyres rather than buying 28"/29" tyres, then lifting it and wishing you'd bought bigger tyres :)

Let me know how you get on. I have had a V6 for 2 years and have just taken it off road for the first time. I've been looking into a few mods. I got a 2" lift  kit from Rhino Rays for £360 including postage which comprised of 4 springs, 2 shocks and some othe bits and bobs (not come yet). I got Colway 215 65 16 MTs for £250 for 5 fitted & balanced from John Craddock in Cannock.

I'll admit to being curious about the V6 if I rebuild The Rabbit as a possible donor. Workign on the basis it HAS to be easier to fit another Zook engine than a VAG

The V6 engine will go in a SWB. Don't know what's involved though, Rhino Ray's done it, I was talking to him about it on Saturday. He used a 1.6 gearbox though as they're easier to find than V6 ones and he gets through a few! The V6 is 136BHP as standard, but, engine mods are few and far between. The only thing I've found so far is a K&N air filter panel. Standard snorkels don't fit either, reckon I'm going to have to modify a 1.6 one. I want to do the V6 because most people do the SWB and there isn't room for my food, Mrs, dogs, tools, tent etc in a SWB, and the LWB 1.6 is too slow for me.
