Sorry to ask stupid questions but here we go anyway!
I have a strop and shackles that I have used once (pulling a lightweight car out of soft sand) but that I never risk getting out of the boot if someone is properly stuck as I dont trust them. They were cheap and bought at a stand at a show where he said he thought they were rated to 5tonne.
Anyway, its about time I bought some I am willing to use! What rating of shackles do people recommend? What about a strap? I am on a budget as ever but dont want rubbish either. Any recommended suppliers?
Cheers all,
Mike

I have a couple of sets one 3 ton one 5 ton I would say go for MINIMUM 3 ton. Others will probably say different though
hope this helps

If they have been tested they will have the tonnage writen on them in metal raised up.
I bought mine from Old Sodbury along with a tirfor cable and a tree strop and car tyre to put cable in all for a tenner.
Rpoblem I have is that my small shackle is rated lower to than the tirfor but my towing eyes are small so I have 2 small ones and put 1 in each recovery eye and put tow rope between the 2 to make a bridle that way you are adding up the pulling load of the small shackles in theory. eg 2 1.5tonne shackles in a bridle makes a 3 tonne recovery towing point.

Mine are 4.7 and were not dear. They are as good as when bought.

Machine Mart do good quality 3 ton strops and 4.7t tested shackles, or seach for Damar Webbing on ebay, every size and weight of strop known to man in their shop!

Not strictly true unless each is pulling at right angles to the mounting point, if you are using it as a bridle then the included angle is important, at 120 degrees, each leg will see the full load.

I was already looking at the machine mart strop 5tonne 4.5m for under a tenner! Cant seem to find the 4.7t shckles tho, any chance of a link? My steering guard has two recover point on it, I am also looking for a suitable bridle. There is a bridle complete with shackels on machine mart but it doesn mention break weights.
Thanks for all the help people!
Cheers,
Mike

Devon 4x4 do different sized rated shackles. Seem like pretty good prices. The mud-club ones come from there.
