Bit of a random question for you - do 90s have hinges on the windscreens in the same way a series landy would?
I know they look like they do, but do they actually still fold over?
Just planning in advance for which will fit in our garage better - either a series 3 or a defender...! It looks like if I go oversized and lifted route on either I've got to have a rag top with the windscreen down!

Some do. Some don't.
My 1992 ex MOD 90 did. Neither my 1992 110 or my 1997 90 did.

The simple answer is that if the bits on the front of the windscreen that attach it to the bulkhead look like hinges, they are. The later vehicles have a solid bracket on each side, whereas the earlier types tend to have hinges and fold down.
In either case, you can easily fit the hinged type if you need your screen to fold.

Thanks guys - long story, but am looking at getting 90, but to get it to fit in my garage will need to be a rag top with a fold down windscreen - especially if I want big tyres and a lift!
Where do the seat belts anchor if you've got a rag top?

Hi, i fitted a rag top to my 84 90 and found the best way was to fit harnesses, much safer and better for keeping you in your seat when off roading :)

best way was to fit harnesses
That would be my plan in the slightly longer term - not sure I could do that straight away though - depends on funds really...

you could take the top mounting plate from where it bolts to the roof/side body part and mount it lower down in the rear tub just behind the seat, that might work :)

A lot of hassle to dismantle it to put it away in the garage, you will have to remove the hoops, door surrounds etc and that is not a 5-minute job. If you want a decent upper seat-belt mount the minimum you need is a MOD type hoop which slots through & fixes to the capping, once again this is a semi-perminant fixture and is as high as a hardtop.

Maybe my plan's not such a good one then.
I could always try fit the car in the garage and keep landy outside, but in that case I might as well keep my disco.
More thought is needed...
