Title: Can't Believe I'm Going To Admit To This...

Treated the 90 to new front pads, calipher pistons and seals. Job done and just the bleeding to do. Rig up bleed bottle etc and pump the pedal. Hop out to see if any air bubbles in the pipe. None as all the fluid is pouring out the bottom of the calipher. Clamp pipe and strip off calipher to see what was wrong (spent hours making sure the seals were in correct).

It was at this point I spotted two pistons sitting on the bench and two holes in the calipher where they should have been :oops:  :oops:  :oops:  :oops:  :oops: .

Then threaded the bleed screw :(  :(  :( .

Second only to filling the engine oil without replacing the sump plug :-)

Of course *I* have never done anything like that  :?

Tim,

Nor me :lol:  :lol:  :lol: . However I have refilled with coolant without attaching the bottom hose :oops:  :oops:  :oops: .

The bleed screw got threaded because I was rushing and tried to undo it the wrong way :x  :x . looks like a new (recon) calipher. Have you seen the prices :evil:  :evil: .

Annoying because I now can't finish the job until it arrives.

And I've never started a motor without an oil filter on it - christ that makes a mess  8)

i no of an apprentice that after fitting a new exhaust to a metro that was getting serviced tried to start it to check it for leaks & it wouldnt start,mainly due to there being no spark plugs,air filter,oil filter or oil in the engine,that is how i got my job as he was sacked about 2 days later.

Howabout a flywheel bolted onto a crankshaft on my lightweight engine swap by a helper, he said could I check it is right, guess who forgot to check it   :cry:  :cry:  :cry:

two days later, lost clutch, lucky, only cost me a clutch\ plate and a set of flywheel bolts, and 6 hours to remove & replace engine

think we've discovered why it took guy so long to get back on the road ?

still, it happens to the best of us :)

a certain wombling friend of mine was fixing his brakes, went in for a cup of tea, came out, jumped in his motor to go home...

jumped out again and said something along the lines of "how about I put the wheels on first?"

I really dont want to admit it but but i managed to fit a saxo vtr de-cat pipe upside down so to avoid the anti roll bar even though there is a bend in the pipe to clear the anti roll bar,oops.

also currently witnessing 2 mechanics trying to fix the air suspension on a classic rangerover as after replacing 1 o the air bags its on its bump stops & wont pump up,i no how to fix it but as im an apprentice i have no say in this matter,im just sitting in the corner chuckling as they make an a^&e of it  :lol:

I can only sympathise.  Now have a set of lovely Stainless pistons in there but am I the only person who can't get the wiper seal retainers from Britpart to fit? had to strip my spare callipers to recover the old ones (fortunately in good nick) because the new ones are just c***.

Quick dash to eye casualty last wednesday.

Having bled the clutch using a self bleed bit of kit. Last time I used one I didn't clean the pipe out and the fluid sent the pipe opaque and I couldn't see the air bubbles so hd to get a new one.
I didn't want to make the same mistake so got a syringe and held the pipe over the litchen sink.
Don't tell her indoors.
Pumped air in and it didn't move. Pressed harder. Harder again and hadn't noticed the pipe had a curl in the end of it and was pointed straight at my face.
Suddenly the pressure went and I got a face, nose, mouth and ear full of brake fluid. It hit the suspended ceiling in the kitchen and went everywhere.

I doubt I'll do that again. Sooner pay the £2 for a new bleeder.
