Title: Disco 1 suspension
Post by: muddyjames on October 31, 2006, 21:53:55
I have saggy suspension and its need replacing soon and I would like the following kit. Any views welcome. Also if anyone knows how much it would be or best place to buy from even better still. I am on a very tight budget to do this.

Standard springs or heavier duty as in weight not lift. I dont want to go taller. Putting non saggy springs on will do that for me! I believe standard springs are cheaper too.

1-2" extra long shocks so I get better articulation off road.

In the boot I have alot of tools and alo tow heavy trailers so back certainly needs up grading weight wise as hitting the bump stops is annoying me now going along the road!

Cheers guys.

Sounds like you should be looking at police spec springs. I think they're usually black with red/white stripe.

Standard springs are priced from £9.00 to £19.50 + vat, each, depending on the chassis number of the Disco.
H/D springs are around £50 + vat per pair, so not that much difference really.

Shocks, you can go for extended gas shocks like Procomp ES9000 that are about £35 each or go for standard shocks with a 2" drop plate for the rears but you'll need something to relocate the springs as these will come out of the spring hangers on full articulation.
You can secure the spring to teh hanger with jubilee clips but make sure the bottom securing plate is in good condition. This will limit the axle drop to the length of the spring though.
Other than that you can fit dislocation cones, but that's a bit more expense.

I took the prices from http://www.paddockspares.com/ or try http://www.mm4x4.co.uk/.

Red/whites are HD for a RRC with self-leveling rear end.  Discos are heavier aren't they?  Plus the set I fitted to RRR lifted it over and inch.
