Well today started quietly enough - until 1:20 pm!
loaded with 1 bin for Morgan Motors, when i am on the A449 near Kidderminster - slowing down to allow a car to turn left when I look in my mirror to see a Ducati cartwheeling down the side of me after hitting the rear of the merc pick up i was in.
Several expletives later I get out to find the rider lying in the road graoning, (luckily he was shaken up but not seriously hurt).
Somehow he had missed the fact that i was braking and hit the o/s rear of the pickup full on - left his visor and 1 glove on the pickup bed - and left a red streak along the bed and the road from his helmet!
will post pix when i get em off my phone.
have managed to smack my knee off the dash and twisted my shoulder with the seatbelt.....Could have been a lot worse - if i'd been in my lorry he wouldnt have made it as mine is about 2 feet higher..nasty thought!

Sounds like he was a very lucky chap not to kill himself!

apart from wondering "what if..." as i'm a Biker myself.. was shaking like a leaf when i took those pix..luckily 1st person on scene was a Doctor- so he looked after the guy until police and ambulance turned up.
Pain didnt hit me until about 1hour later

as you can see road was totally blocked - and we still had tw*ts trying to come past!! :evil:

glad to hear all involved are gonna see another day, and i'm not surprised people were still trying to pass, i witnessed a bike hit a car side on as the car pulled out from a side street, mess and debris everywhere and guy lying in the road, even a bus tried to get through !! road was closed for about 5 hours when the police finally turned up.

Wonder if the sun was in his eyes / across his visor... quite a bit of sun in to the camera there, makes it difficult to see the brake lights when you are wincing

Jees, being a biker myself and having had an off this year...Looking at that I would say he is one lucky guy.....Someone looking after him I reckon.
Glad everyone is OK.
Good point about the sun, it is a bit dodgy at this time of the year.

:shock: Hate to say it but this is whats allways put me off Motorbike's i know to many people who have either been killed or seriously hurt through no fault of there own.. :cry: going down the A46 the other day and a bike had ran into the back of a caravan he was alright when i went past he was sitting in the back of the caravan!! Rumor has it he was doing 140+ and didn't realise how quick he was gaining on the caravan!! :shock:

Seems lack of concentration and speed were involved there, very lucky bloke to get away with that one, looks like a big impact, Having been on the end of something similar although not my fault I might add, it can really hurt, got some good scars to prove that.
Bikes can be replaced, can't always say the same for the person or bits of them...

and sounds like you know more about gay bars than me.....;)
And no - nothing broken - just 3 tiny cuts on his right hand - cos his glove came of during the impact - glassfire dust on/near his eyes and he smacked his knee as he went over the bed of the pickup!

Someone likes him. That bike and your truck are fairly well mashed I would have expected him to get away with those few injuries.

We had 2 biker deaths in 2 days :( :( :(
One Sunday morning, misjudged the approch to a roundabout & hit a group of trees at the other side of the r/bout
Paramedics worked on him all way to Hospital, but it was 'called' within 5minutes of him arriving.
The other died at scene, don't know what happened. just that there was another vehicle involved
At least the guy in your RTA walked away

I've never seen one with the handlebars ripped off :shock:
When I was a student I spent a little time at TRRL working with guys doing motorcycle crash work, I did my final year project on a very tiny part of this and I saw enough to put me off for life. Besides, I'm b***dy lethal on a pushbike :roll:

Up until last year I was 24 years served on two wheels. In that time I had 11 accidents, two of which were my fault of which one was me arsing around.
I packed in riding for two especial reasons, one being that since becoming a Daddy, my life now has a value. The other reason is that EVERY time I went out on the bikes I had cause to take evasive action either because of a real dangerous manouver by a car or a perceived imminent hazard. The standard of driving has got to be such that I no longer consider the thrill of riding to be worth the risk and worry of being on two wheels.
Glad to hear that the biker involved in this collision got away relatively unscathed, but for his own well being and his families peace of mind, I surely hope that he re-assesses his level of riding competency before he gets on another bike. Looking at the road layout and conditions that accident should never have happened.
I know it has been said that the sun may have been in his eyes causing him to squint, but if that were the case then he should have slowed down to allow for his impared vision. Looking at the damage caused, he wasn't hanging around.
