Title: Split Charge System
Post by: Discotel on November 03, 2006, 20:06:11
Is it best to fit a split charge system if I am running a winch..?

And if so how hard are they to fit..?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram I can use..?

Regards, Terry

I run two yellows in parallel.

How much winching are you doing?  If alot, parallel them, only the best split charges can cope with the power and they are expensive!!!

Me too, just the biggest 2 batteries I could fit and 80 amp alternator.  Top Tip, an alternator that size will kill a standard V belt.  Untill I can get the bits from a 93 SE I use the widest V belt I can find that's the right length, the extra 3mm in thickness makes all the difference.  10mm belt lasts the afternoon, 13mm belt, 2 years and counting :o

Hi guys,

Again thanks for all your help I have put in a second battery as suggested...Looks good..Only trouble is I have not got stuck yet to use the winch..Always the way though...Still its better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.....

Get out and find a nice tricky bit of track and get it used.

Then you won't make a cock of it when you really do need to use it

Won't do any harm to get the wire/rope tensioned properly either
