Test id I think £40 and yes... you can have it done before the old one runs out... I think it only runs from the new test date though?

tests are about 45 now unless you get it trade which is 30 where i go.

you can have it done a month before it runs out, the new one runs from that date but expires a year on from the end date on old mot, so in theroy you can get a 13 month mot, see what i mean.

You can have it done any time - you just loose the amount of time left on the old one if it's more than a month.

The official test price is currently £44.50 but only for the moment.  It is about to go up to £50.

Most garages charge below the recommended.  My work are still £40 at the moment.  I would imagine that once the vosa rise comes in, most places will go up a few quid.  If you are within a calendar month you can get a test and keep your expiry date.  You can test any time and get 12 months from that date.

Hope that helps.

Mike

if i tested say... tomorrow, but the expiry date was not until jan... and they gave me the list of stuff to do, and i did it by jan would it be 12 months from jan, or 12 months from the test?

surely 12 months from jan right?

You would have to pay for another test in jan and get 12 months from then.  If you did it in december you would still get it to jan!

Hope that makes some sense!

Rather than pay for a full test, you could get an inspection done on the vehicle instead, would be cheaper, as long as the people either are mot testers, or know what is needed for an mot

One thing to remember is that an MOT is not a guarantee of road worthiness, it just means when it was tested on that day it passed, a week, a few days or a month, 6 months down the road it could fail again

Also it doesn't cover everything, an inspection would/should reveal more faults than an mot, like noisy gearbox etc

Current price 44.15 price as of 7th Nov 50.35
you can post date em, anything up to 30 days hence.
make a booking these days as VOSA's new puter system is slowing the MOT world down.

From what I can work out through a beer induced haze is this.
Your MoT is due out in Jan, but if you got it tested today and they failed it, could you still run it on the road until January?
From my understanding of the vehicle law this would be a bit of no-no, because if the worst happened the authorities could check back and find that you were driving the vehicle in an unroadworthy condition and to quote the Drill Instructor in Full Metal Jacket, you would be in a world of sh*t.
Every MoT test is computorised, and if there are 'advise' matters, they go on as well.
Best thing to do matey, is get it checked over to the best of your knowledge and submit it to the dreaded test.
