Title: Can you adjust the handbrake on a 90?
Post by: bigfatsi on November 06, 2006, 09:19:29
Cocked up recently and flogged my 90 through a couple of obstacles with the handbrake on   (Wondered what the smell was!) It won't hold it ona slope anymore so I'm gonna have to sort something out. Can you adjust the handbrake or do I need to replace the shoes? If so, how much of a job is it? Quite fancy the Xrbrake but can't justify the cost!

Simon.

Yes mate you can adjust the handbrake up. If you crawl under and look at the brake drum for the handbrake you will see on the exhaust side of it there is a Square adjuster if you play about with that you may get ya handbrake back. If not I think you may have to fit new shoes which are not expensive I think they are in the reigon of about £15. The last set I bought for my series was £11.

Easy to adjust, but don't touch the cable adjuster
There is a square drive adjuster on the brake drum that should be used to tighten or loosen as required, if underneath I think it is on the right half way up, depending which way you lie I guess..

Might be an idea to change the shoes though as you may have glased them now and won't be efficient anymore
