Title: Which diff ratio's
Post by: muttleyd on November 06, 2006, 21:15:16
Hi,

Can anyone confirm what the axle ratio of a 200Tdi Defender 90 is likely to be ?

I could take the diff out and count the teeth, but at the moment I would rather leave it in.

I am trying to put together an axle to fit a KAM leccy locker into, I have got a disco axle with disk brakes (nice! no more struggling with drums) and have been offered a 3.54 disco diff, thought I would build up the axle first before swapping

Now I have been told that this is the same as a Defender, however I read somewhere else the defender might be a 4.1? ratio.

Any one please help clear this up.

Thanks in advance...

nope, no 4.1's were never fitted to land rover defenders as stock items, they are after market stuff for us boys with simex,or other kinds of big tyres
diff ratio will be 3:54:1
as for the kam leccy locker    WHY
arb air locker through and through
2 many broblems with those solenoids, and more electrics go wrong

The cam lockers look great on paper though, LSD until you flick a switch and then a full manual locker - fab idea, however i'm not sure on their implementation.

to put it in a nut shell.....theyre c**p
if your spending the money on that kind of thing then get a arb, they predictable, and parts are readily avalible and cheap unlike the unreliable kam lockers
the only good thing cam do really are the 4.75 ring and pinions theyre blinning strong,no 1 could ever break them not even me or mike
ash would have a good go
end of the day tho, if you want spend your money on a kam locker then its your decision dont let me influence u
but join the d4x4 forum and ask them, they will say the same thing aswel

I am a sucker for punishment and anything new.
If its good enough for the MOD it can't be all bad.
Guess I am just lazy and don't want to plumb in a compressor.

At the end of the day it's only engineering and half the fun is sorting out the problems. If water gets into electrics you seal it or use military style connecters, if something breaks you make it out of something stronger.
