Before I post this it should be said, I am not anti police. I deal with several coppers at work, all of which are decent blokes. That said, I still laughed harder than I have laughed in a while!
We had a car brought into work the other day on the back of a transporter. It had broken down (not an unusual sight in a garage) but this one was slightly different, the front bumper was in the boot and the radiator was hanging off (we dont do bodywork).
The copper whos car it is (give him his due, he was laughing) told me this story. He broke down on the motorway, few hundred yards from an exit. He rings a mate to tow him and gets comfy waiting for his mate to show up. While he is waiting, a highways agency motorway patrol bloke turns up. As they both get out of the car, the copper realises he actually arrested the highways agency chap a few weeks before. The conversation remained civilised and then his mate shows up to give him a tow. Neither him or his mate could work out where to tie the rope (screw in towing eye kept in the boot) so the "friendly" highways chap offers to tie it on for him.
Yep you probably guessed, he fed it through the bumper and tied it around the radiator!!!
Amazingly they made it off the motorway but at the roundabout, slight jerk of the rope and it ripped the front end of his motor!
Your not telling me that the bloke didnt know exactly what he was doing. Probably shouldnt share this in public but it made me laugh so much, I just couldnt resist!

Shouldn't be doing ANY towing with a rope on a Motorway, I'd expect the Highways would know that and so should the Coppers.
I seem to recall it's solid draw bars only.

I was thinking that. Copper could possibly cause some stink if he didnt mind taking heat himself :)
