Oh look, 'unbiased' reporting again!

Cheeky [!Expletive Deleted!], I emailed him the other day, suggesting that if he wants to make the capital city a nicer place to live with less emissions and wasted fuel, instead of sneaking tax hikes in under the 4x4 banner, he should outlaw the usage of aircon throughout the city.
It'd save loads of fuel and hence pollution, on what is basically a frivolous accesory.
So far he's not bothered to give me a reply.
-
Oh look at the title
"4x4 drivers face huge charge rise"
Why oh why do the bbc include the term 4x4 in every story regarding the congestion charge.
-
Because the BBC hasn't woken up to the fact that 4x4s are not the most polluting vehicles on the planet
Apparently Busses and lorries are to be caned as well
Isn't it time that drivers assailed with these charges took it up with the court of Human Rights
Seeing it is our right as a human to drive whatever vehicle we choose to do and people like Ken Livingstone are discriminating against us and incriminating us for our free choice
-
Shouldn't it read, "mercedes, Porche, Rolls Royce face tax hike" as only 40% of the cars in band G are large MPVs?
once again, bandwagon, jump, lack of facts, lazy journalism, ar*****es.
-
The Mayors press release does not mention 4x4 at all. I have used the BBC web complaint page to point this out to them.

so have I, post your complaints here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/make_complaint_step1n.shtml - it may help to remind them of http://news.bbc.co.uk/newswatch/ukfs/hi/newsid_5320000/newsid_5324700/5324718.stm - clearly they haven't listened to one of their own.
Let's make em feel hot under the collar !

You seem to be forgetting your own comments. re:

You forget :
http://news.bbc.co.uk/newswatch/ukfs/hi/newsid_5320000/newsid_5324700/5324718.stm
All you are doing is falling victim to biased journalism again. The BBC are supposedly the best news service in the world, yet you perpetuate this rubbish! I'm sure if you read the statement you might find that the term 4x4 isnt used in it anywhere.
Also, could you tell me how my 1.6 Suzuki Vitara, now almost 15 years old is worse for the environment then a 5.0lt 1 year old Jag that will never see 15 years old, because, I'm having significant trouble with that.
You are winning no supporters and you are damaging your reputation. the 4x4 community is not a handful of people that like to go tearing around the countryside. We number well into the tens of thousands and we take our hobby seriously and respect the wishes and desires of others and to put it bluntly, we are now starting to get really fed up with this attitude.
Can I point out that before you jump on this band wagon your own business uses and relies on 4x4s from remote access veichles to TV props. Also that without them The Ambulance Service, Fire Brigade, Police, Water Board, Electricity Services, Voluntary emorgency services would all be stuffed.
Get your facts straight and get off the bandwagon, because sooner or later, its gonna fall flat on its face, just like all the others.
Your duty is to report the FACTS and trying to change them to get extra publicity is not part of that. Nor is this supposed grouping all polluters under 4x4's so the public can understand. Right or not, thats distorting the facts. If you mean MPVs say MPVs, at best, its you being lazy.

OOO, a have your say bit :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've stuck my complaint into the BBC about the usual sensationalist anti 4x4 headlining they've used.
Once again I see the BBC have blatently mis-reported on the London Congestion Charge as being some kind of "anti-4x4 Tax".
PLEASE, PLEASE GET IT RIGHT!!!
IT IS FOR ALL HIGH EMMISSION CARS AND NOT JUST 4x4'S!!!!
This kind of headlining really makes utter nonsense of the policy.
I suggest anyone else who thinks the BBC are complicit in giving 4x4's in general a bad press also e-mails their thoughts.
-
Looks like the BBC have now changed the headline to "Polluting cars face charge rise" which is more accurate.

VICTORY! WE GOT THE HEADLINE CHANGED!!!!!!

This was FRONT PAGE on some of the freebie papers on the tubes today
Talking of which, what a nightmare on them the last few days... northern line delays yesterday (as usual) so they were too packed to get on, couldnt get on the piccadilly from the victoria as finsbury park was closed because of overcrowding, kings cross platform was taped off for the same reason. had to travel back miles in the wrong direction to get on and was so squished in when i did that i did my ankle in
today victoria line was completely suspended, the trains were completely [!Expletive Deleted!] up from waterloo and the district trains sat around for ages because the main line trains were diverted on to the tracks
... oh and the bus drivers were on strike as well
its a complete joke, i'm taking the rangie tomorrow!
sorry, off my chest now!
-
And didn't the deputy prime minister publically admit that buses produce more polution per seat than the average family car (and I don't think the car is full either). Not hard to believe.
What we have to do is stop people having to travel, not dictating how they can go about totally uneccesary journeys.
Julie used to contract for BT in Croyden, she lived in a hotel and travelled up and down at the wekends, she's a programmer and could do the job tucked up in bed at home but no, they have to see a bum on a seat. Best bit is if she needed to speak to her team leader, she had to ring her at home!
This is what's wrong with this country, we are all expected to be somewhere else all the time. (well it's one of many things actually, but let's not start on that).
-
The 6pm news last night didn't use 4x4 as an example, instead they showed a big MPV. Progress of a sort but they still showed pics of 4x4s in the city.
Ken's comments were 'why do people need 4 wheel drive in the city' which is a point I agree with - its simply cruel to remove such vehicles from their natural environment. How those city 4x4s must be yearning to see the mud.

It makes no difference how many wheels are driven! This focussing on the type of transmission has to stop! If they want to cut pollution it has to emmisions based policy. The '4x4' word should not need to be even mentioned. That's the point.

Laser_jock... I think that comment was most defintely tongue-in-cheek ;-)

:) :) What everyone is forgetting whilst all this smoke is blowing about is the simple fact that the Government and Local Councils have to raise more revenue so the easy option is the motorist and that's it.We are an easy option,we may moan and complain but at the end of the day we will pay up.The only way out is to unite and fight back but will we do that,no!!!
We only have ourselves to blame, the French would certainly do something about it!!!!!!!
  Terry Smith

Why I'm glad I have a UK and Canadian passport, becomming ashamed how we just roll over and play dead all the time.
We seem to forget WHY the Government is there. They serve us, not the other way round.

Interesting theory. From what I can work out the vast majority of politicians seem to be doing a very good job of serving themselves, e.g cash for honours, 'expenses' claims etc etc.
A fine example would be that fat, pie shop eating, pagga merchant, Jabba the Hutt lookalike John Prescott.
What a fine Labour man he turned out to be.All for the working man, while having a nice country house, a town house, numerous properties in his constituencey, numerous official cars (all big gas guzzlers, of course) and being the moral guardian while 'entertaing' his secretary!
Useless to**ers, all of them.

I couldn't agree with you more LSP.
By the way the Daily Express, wants a slice of the anti 4x4 cake, as today they ran an article regarding good old Ken's congestion charge.
Guess the title's "Gas Guzzler's, 4x4 , Landrover etc blah, blah, blah, blah 4x4, Gas Guzzler's blah,blah.
It's getting rather tiresome now, its about time they jumped off the bandwagon.

Not at all, Old Bean!
Just be careful you don't get labelled as 'a person of thought who may want to disrupt the status quo'.
Or as McCarthy would have put it, a 'Red under the bed'.
-
Why not just keep upping the charges Ken, a fantastic move. Eventually you'll see companies and citizens leaving London and its boroughs 'cos it just isn't viable financially to be there.
That will leave Tone, Ken, and all the other overpaid and bored people on "power" to wander through the streets in their official vehicles proclaiming how lovely it all is.
Bet it will still be polluted though......
