Hi Guys and Gals. I really need your help on this one.
It all started yesterday when i decided to hire a movie. No probs movie was great. :)
Today, i thought i would do some work on the beast before my next punch event next sunday. I replaced the A frame balljoint and polybushed itt, along with the rest of the beast now. I also fitted the lowered rear shock mounts i made.
Then tonight i needed to return the film i had hired. I got me coat and headed for the beast, it started to turn the starter and drive itself across the road.
Now i know i shouldnt leave it in gear, but you know what its like when you drive through wet mud, and leave your handbrake on. So i leave it in gear. I had to run out in the road, unlock the door and pull it out of gear. Even when i put the keys in the ignition, nothing happened.
Then i noticede smoke from under the bonnet. I grabbed the can of water i keep in the back, pulled the bonnet and drowney the engine in water. This put the fire out. I then had to go to my toolbox, and get the right spanners to dissconnect the earth cable, which i have re-routed to make it easier to get to. (Luckily).
Anyhow. I have managed to get the bit of loom off. Its the bit that runs behind the engine. Has the wires for the starter and alternater. So ill have to rebuild one of theose. But i cant figure out why it did it. I think it could be the ignition barrel. The engine stop hasnt worked on it for years, and i think it is slowly dying.
Thats going to be the first thing i try anyway.
Your ideas will be helpful. Thanks Wayne.

hi hope you have sorted out your electrics, but i need to no how hard was it to do your a frame bushes ,i have done all the rest but not them ..Thanks Ray
-
Hi Bombx
Wasnt too bad, as when i rebuilt the landy i put new fixture bolts in. Also, as luck would have it, the large bush bolts were easy to undo aswell.
I have a fully equiped workshop and it took me 3 hours including pressing the old ball joint out, and the new one in. The hardest part was pressing the old bushes out. Getting the right sized socket.
If you need any more advice, give me a shout. :)

Well. Ive just stripped the ignition switch and found this. It looks like the two contacts have shorted due to the spring and ball that hold it in position wearing.
-
Well, thanks to WING NUT for the ignition switch. All sorted now. HORAY.

glad your sorted
