I have tried to sort this out today. I am going into reverse far to easily, so I have replaced the Bias plate and springs and the reversing light switch (The old one was broken). Still it seems to easy to get into reverse instead of first. Could this be down to the plunger assembly on the left of the bais plate, the one that operates the reverse lights switch. When I was adjusting the new switch it seemed harder to get it wrong when the switch was perminantly on if you see what I mean. More pressure against the plunger assembly. I had to slacken it off to make sure the light went out correctly. I have left it as tight as I can, but its now easy to get it wrong again and before you say anything. Yes it is probably 95% the drivers fault. But still it shouldn't be that easy to get into reverse instead of first should it?

I have ordered some new springs for the plunger assembly today. The place I ordered them from didn't know if you can change them. I am guessing by the very fact you can buy the springs that they are changable. Anybody ever done it and if so how difficult is it?.

I've never gone that far mate but I'd say the plunger IS the difference between how hard you push for 1st and for reverse.

Its far to easy. There is nothing to stop you just putting it into reverse and ending up sat on someones bonnet. I would say 8 out of 10 times I end up in reverse and not first.

Thej from what I remeber it's that little plunger thing with the reverse switch on it. mine was fine so I left well alone. Note it has some shims in it for adjustment :?

was it your post I replied to recently about this?
My tip is to go into 2nd and then straight up into first, virtually impossible to go into reverse that way, takes a bit of getting used to!! I really should fix mine too.
I also considered getting a buzzer to connect to the reverse light so I'd know if t gets put in by accident and I would know before putting my foot down and potentially running someone over.
The best answer of course is to do it properly, not use work arounds like me!!

stripped the plunger assembly down tonight and replaced the two springs. Wow what a terrible job. It took me an hour of blood (literally), sweat and tears to get the thing open. When together much faster but doesn't seem to have made a bit of difference. Having now replaced everything I guess I will just have to live with it. Like they say. It a landrover !! lol
