Title: Swivel pin wear
Post by: Guy90 on November 20, 2006, 19:30:46
What's acceptable swivel pin wear?

Trying to track down a speed related vibration, on grabbing the front wheel at either side and rocking it, there is about 4 or 5 mm movement.

Seems a bit much to me but is it or should there be any anyway?

Is it the vibration?

Thanks

There shouldn't be enough for you to feel.   It could well be the source of the vibration, but it will need doing anyway, so do it before you do anything else :-)

Thanks Tim.

Seen flags on a windy day with less flap than this swivel. Never done this job before so anything I should look out for?

Hope it is the cause of the vibration as I've checked everything else.

Did mine earlier in the year for the same reason and did help, I was advised that I could either follow the book and do it properly, or just lift the pin remove some shims and bolt back, if no movement then all is fine, and thats the easiest way and they way others have been told, so I did just that.

All you have to hope is that there are some shims in there

Be careful not to twist the brake lines.
