That's been answered recently, have a look using the search button at the top, you'll find a wiring diagram and details of the relay

Shouldn't roof lights be switched independently of the vehicles main lighting?
Since they are for off road use only, usually to give a better angle of lighting to normal head lights or spots, they should be used with either side lights only, or, indeed, no other lights at all.

Yep . . . see other post on roof lights.
Indepent wiring is best in my view. No chance of accidently dazzling other road users when you switch to main beams that way.

The LAW says you can have up top 6 lamps on as your main beam, there is no restriction on height but they should be mounted symetrically.
Dipped beam you can have 2.

NOT 10 then
does that include the 'standard' lights?
mine are wired so the 2 on the 'a'bar come on with the main beam, the 2 at the bottom have an extra switch but can only be used with main beam, and another switch for the roof lights again only with main beam.
None of these were wired in for the mot, but were fitted
Dont use main beam much but the choice is there

If they have an isolator switch then they aren't MOT failure.
If your A bar lamps had their own switch then technically your roof lights are legal, it's 6 lamps including your headlamps, as mine is.

This might help with the wiring
