My swivel is leaking badly (see the other thread) but my mate has ffered me a full axle of a spare 3.5 range rover classic. My disco is an early on (1991). Would I be able to swap the entire hub and leave the axle in place or would i be better to swap the entire thing or is that even possible!!
Chaos, need MOT for briercliffe next sunday...
Cheers,
Mike

These are inter-changable as long as its the 7 hole hub.

Yes, if it's got 7 holes in the swivel ball to axle mounting then they are the same axles, if it's got 6 they are the older axles. Provided they are both the same thing re ABS.
Easiest for your problem is to unbolt the 7 bolts, remove the calliper and lift the whole lot off in one go, it's heavy mind and the halfshaft will come out too, that's fine.
Then slide the halfshaft in with the new knuckle assy and spin the hub to get it engaged in the diff. It's heavy but fortunately there is a shoulder to hold the weight just as you get the flanges lines up, then bolt it all back together.
Swapping the whole axle is another possibilty, I'd check as to whether all the mounting bolts will come loose first before trying this in a hurry, but agiain if you take the callipers off then it's not a bad job.

the cheapest thing to do is get a good swivel complete and bolt it on!
cost £60-£80, range rover classic is a disco 200 underneath

No, A disco is a Range Rover that's slumming it
Perfectly true though, the post EFi Range Rover was the starting pont for the 200 Disco and most mechanicals are interchangeable.
Now, can someone tell me, Tim came round today, propshaft goosed again.
No probs said I , help yourself to a spare. Mine are longer :?
How's that happen then? his Disco 300 TDi, my RRC a V8 hard dash.
