I just bought a 110 V8 (1990). Can anyone tell me (due to lack of any form of manual, Haynes or otherwise) what type of engine oil I should be putting in it?
Cheers

all standard rover v8's in LR/RRC etc should be fed 20W50
as for what type its up to you, but i have always used mineral oil rather than synthetic or semi synthetic.

mine runs on 15w40 no probs :D

My old one used to drink a bit and I found using Lucas 20/w50 with their stabiliser cut that out. 15/w40 is within the spec for later V8s but the engine is old school whenit comes to oil, thick and slow to fill in the gaps.

I think this is the one I use. £26 for 9 1/2 litres

I'd use a good quality, semi-synthetic 20/50w (we use a Millers SOR in the racer, but that may be a bit overkill). There's a good reason for this. The cam system wears and when it starts to wear you can get oil foaming on the hydraulic lifters (known as 'pump-up') which induces an intermitant misfire which is a total cow to trace. Better quality oils don't foam as much and very much limit the hydraulic pump-up problem.
I kid you not - if you've a mystery misfire on a v8, try changing the oil as well as the coil etc! Top tip of the day!

Well actually it's CSS, but I would agree a decent oil of some sort is necessary. I had gone for cheap stuff in the racer just because it'll get changed often, but it's not worth it for the problems it can cause.
Millers do make good oils http://www.millersoils.net/index2.html
Spec (out of Haynes BOL) would have been forthcoming, but the manual I have here is for a diseasel, V8 manual is elsewhere.
