Now i have got my rover coupe turbo the fiance has fallen in love with turbo's and she is looking at a Pulsar GTi-R
Just wondering if anybody knows about how reliable etc they are and running costs etc...
Its already had a rebuild and mods to push it just over 300Bhp
She only wants it cuz i beat her in her Veccy Gsi down the ring road
-
PULSAR is the IMPORT SUNNY - so insurance will be more expensive.
fairly bullet proof in standard trim - as BHP goes up - then so reliability goes down!!!
-
She already got a ins quote and is £7 a month cheaper than a veccy GSi ??????
Suppose its jap so they do build things to last..
-
as said if its up to 300bhp then expect some bills if it goes wrong!
also make sure its serviced often and looked after and should be ok
-
Does seem pretty well looked after and recently rebuilt so should be pretty good.
Its chipped, de-cat'd, and has a larger turbo.
-
one thing i will say is gearbox!!
one of the mechanics at work has one that hes currently rebuilding the engine on so ill ask him tommorow about what to look for
-
Cheers would be great if you could :)
-
If its standard and you are sure it hasnt been ragged, go for it.
If its been ragged or modded and particualrly tweaked up beyond the magic 300HP expect trouble. I know two people with them, one is a great car never let him down. Tother is worse than a landy (Runs for cover)
-
It has been well looked after and present owner estimates it pushing approx 300bhp.
So its on border lines :? :?
-
get it on a dyno. especially if the owner is wanting to charge a premium for all his 'tuning'. will give you a good idea how its runnign and if there are any fueling problems. Most problems with tuned engines are fueling related.
Also tells you if he's bulling you...if he is ok with a run then he is probably very genuine...if he shys away, so should you.
-
I have to say, a Pulsar keyring will look somewhat more interesting than a Sunny keyring.

spoke to the other mech at work the day,
he said to have a squin t at the boost guage on the dash,if it goes of the scale its running over 1 bar of boost,if its near the top o the sclae thats about 10 psi o boost,
Also check for oil pressure,if its a good un start it up n get it warjmed through & at idle the guage should sit in the middle ish,if it sits on the bottom theres uber low oil presuure
-
Cheers for that. :)
Its running 1 bar at the mo but thats just what the advert says so you never know..
She just gotta try and sell her veccy Gsi now though...

it depends whats been done then, mate says that 99% o the time folk just hump the boost up to 1 bar for the 300bhp effect,in actual fact it just makes it run lean as the standard fuel pump cant cope & the regulator cant flow enough fuel
-
just found out the one she is after. has just blown the bottom end. :0
so she is looking into a more standard one. its got nearly 250bhp standard which is enough to play with for a while. 0-60 in 5 which is 1 sec quicker than my coupe :(
