Post by: daveyravey on December 03, 2006, 20:01:55
Had a wee brown-trouser moment today ...... run outa brakes
Quick question;
Are the vented calipers for the v8 disco 1 the same as the non vented ?

If not, will the vented 1's fit onto the caliper brackets ?

vented are wider then none as the disk is thicker...

The vented calipers will fit on the mounts of the non vented, thay are basically the same caliper bar the spacer in the centre of them to make them wider,im planning on fitting avented & drilled brakes to my 90 when i get a chance to overhaul my calipers

Its easy when you know how,

to convert standard calipers to vented you need a set o spacers, which strangely enough ive found you cant source them now, luckily my faithur bought a set years ago "just in case" so doing a wee deal to get a big brake set

Or  you could buy the proper calipers and vented discs, if you can't find the spacers...

The vented disks were fittred to Rab=nge rovers but had dual circuti hydraulics, I don't know if they were fitted to Disco or not, but here's an idea.  Apparently the disks were used on V8 CSW but had a bigger calliper, Bearmach I'm told do a kit for a brake upgrade :D

Just had a quick squint at their catalogue, but can't see the spacer kit.
Maybe its something they don't advertise   :?

Maybe a trip to a scrappy is on the cards & buy a piston & seal kit

I don't think the 4.2 is any different from a 3.9 RRC but both will be dual circuit.

Could try EBC dimpled and grooved discs with EBC SUV Sport pads...

I've got goodridge hoses too - but haven't got round to fitting them yet

Do the disks make much difference with the pads, I've fitted the pads on their own and they aren't that much different.

Anyone know if the Mintex ones stand up as well as the EBC?

IIRC it's only the soft-dash thats 24 spline, but the 4.2 is a nice lump.

Unfortunately the one I bought recently doesn't have the 4.2, it was swapped for a brand new lump.

It's a 4.6

Oh damn
