I voted Disco
For a start you get more for your money because they dont carry the RR badge
There's more Tdi's manual gear box versions about (if you wanted one) than Rangies.
If you dont mind a V8 with an auto then go the Rangie route.
Have a test drive of both before you make up your mind.
:D

Well I drive a Zuk, however if I had a spare £1500 a Disco it would be, lots of mods available and more importantly lots in the scrappy for secon hand parts, where as the old RR's seem to be coming harder and harder to find.
Or may be its Boggert needing new glasses

You beat me to it! Where's the other options

Funny but i find that whilst people seem to want the Disco (or Range Rover that's slumming it) because of the surge of articles on them over the last few years, people are not buying Range Rovers quite as enthusiastically. They are just as capable if not better than a Disco, have a lower C of G, admittedly a lower Gross Weight which is a consideration and perhaps more bolt on toys are aimed at the Disco although of course they all fit.
I like my Rangie.
Thinhg is on your budget it's condition that counts, whichever you buy.
And a factory Turbo Diesel will be a V&M, not a bad engine but the 200TDi is much more popular, the V&M goes nicley in a 90 given they are worth about £6.

Been in both and I wouldn't waste my money on either
But if you are serious go for the RR as they make lovely rollers

Go for whichever you like and the best one for the money.
RRs and Discos are the same under the body where it matters and have a similar set of issues for off roading - long overhangs, need to lift or cut for large tyres etc. Both are incredibly capable out of the box and alot of fun. Practical too!

I'd say Disco. Had Both, probably Disco as the shape looks less dated which means when you get bored it'll be easier to shift. Nowt to do with ability as they should be the same but for a higher roof line on the Disco.

well i had a rr classic with a 3ltr turbo diesel and now got a disco v8 on lpg. But still miss the rangy. and would have another rangy tomorrow if i could just love them and they are just as good as a disco off road. plus the disco kit fits a rangy as well. so me go with rangy

Dont touch the VM range rovers as the engines are a pile of crap. We had one and know of 2 others and they all wished they had 200TDi engines. Dont get me wrong, when the engine wasnt broken it worked nice, but then they have a habit of being as bad, if not worse than, the 2.5td engines used in the early 90/110.

Well thanks for all your replies, im going with the disco, seen a few in the last couple of days, one with a new rear floor and rear xmember which i dont mind ! cos its saves me doing it , and one that seems ok, m reg 100k five door tdim £1500 which i didnt think bad either.

Disco is the way to do mate. Ya get alot more for ya money and a newer age vehicle. Get a 200tdi top engine if looked after. But a 90 is the best of all. I run a 90 with a disco 200tdi and its tops mate. So looks like ya get alot of toy for ya money with a disco. Keep away from the V8 mate they drink fuel and are not keen on water. They are a hand full the V8s if ya dont look after em. The diesel just keeps going and going.
