I'm about to convert my truck cab to a hard-top. The top I get may or may not have windows in it...

I've got a couple of queries...

1. What exactly do I need to fit it other than tools, common sense, and 30 nuts&bolts?
2. If I'm having windows fitted, does anyone know whether it's the glass/seals that's more expensive or the cost of actually having the glass fitted?
3. There's no aerial for my radio. Am I best fitting one in the standard place on the wind next to the bonnet or is it simpler to fit on the roof? I'm only asking because I remember fitting an aerial on a mk2 golf and it took ages to get the wheel off and the wheel arch lining out...is it the same with a defender?
4. If I manage to get a top in the wrong colour, how much is it going to cost me (and where?) to get it sprayed the correct colour?

I'd recommend having a friend handy to help position the top as you put it on - they're not too heavy, but very awkward to handle on your own.

Is it a matter of removing the wheelarch lining having removed the wheel? Is there easier access?

When we fitted radio rigs to 110's, the aerials were mounted on the front wing. This was for easy access and to stop further leaks in the vehicle. Just remove the plastic panel on the wing top for access underneath. Then find a blanking grommet on the bulkhead to run your aerial cable in.

OK...a really stupid question now...how do I take the wing off?

(I'm asking this without having ever done it before and without having it in front of me!!)

Dunno if you are aware but the Defender truck cab is worth a few quid whereas a van roof or a converted van roof (wi windows) arent really worth much at all so you should turn a tidy profit unless you are after a genuine csw roof with the full headlining etc, these are at a premium and reasonably rare, we fitted one to my 90 a while back.  They unbolt easily enough.  I paid for sliding windows fitting to my van sides and that was cheap but can't remember the exact price.  Can you not repaint the sides yourself it is a Landy after all?  We also fitted an aerial which as stated above is beyond simple.
