Title: Carport Plastic Roofing?
Post by: smo on December 11, 2006, 16:51:33: I'm just about to set about building a carport, which needs a transparent roof to let the light through.

Thing is all i can find in local builders yards and b&q is crappy thin corrugated polycarbonate stuff, which just seems to be very flimsey and always used to crack and shatter after no time at all.

So, what alternatives are there, and where can i get them?

Post by: Evilgoat on December 11, 2006, 17:17:27: I just took two sheets of stuff off my grandfather's car port while demolishing it. Its basically a flat sheet with corrugations inside it. I think B7Q sell it but its been up there 8 years and not a mark on it or discolouration.

Post by: muddyjames on December 11, 2006, 18:03:38: What about the stuff used for conservatory roofs? That is plastic and hard wearing and tripple glazed too so would keep you warm if it was down the sides too when your working on the landy!!!!

AFAIK thats the stuff evilgoat was talking about - thing is apart from B&Q where can i get it, and whats it called!

They seem to have several sites (found them under another name!), but the products and prices look good so i think i will order from them.

Post by: tomarse on December 11, 2006, 22:51:29: I used a load of the corrugated stuff from B&Q on my carport and it is lasting okay after 4 months or so (and some decent wind!)
In the big b&q they sell multiple different thicknesses (i got the less flimsy one).
keep an eye on the prices as the different sizes work out at completely different values and it makes no sense. Take a calculator with you to work out the cost per square unit!
I think the longest ones worked out more expensive than the slightly shorter ones.. and they also sell it in metric and imperial measurements which both are completely different prices!
