Title: Do I need to be Certified!!!!
Post by: davidjmiller on December 11, 2006, 19:09:37
Sadly, the time has come for me and the Landrover to part ways. The old 1986 V8 CSW has been joy and a frustration at times, as only a Landrover can be.

With the arrival of our new child and an extension to the house about to happen we need to prioritise and the Landy's for the chop. The new baby also means it's not getting used for anything like it should be.

(Sobs onto keyboard a little!!)

The previous owner is a Corgi registered gas fitter and, before the regs were tightened up, he fitted the system himself and Adrian Flux insured him without a certificate. The same company also insured me when i sent them a copy of this guys corgi registration.

Now, my understanding is that i'll need to take the car to a specialist LPG centre and get the system approved before somebody will buy it off me.

Am I correct?

Thanks,

David

My last 110 V8 did not have a cert. and my insurance were happy to insure me, only noting on the policy that it had an lpg kit fitted
The point is that all insurance companies are different
When you come to sell it you can say to any prospective buyer quite honestly that you have it insured with no problems regarding a cert.
It would be down to them to do their homework re insurance - maybe even worth pointing them in the direction of your current insurers who will know the vehicle
Can't see it being too dear to have a certified fitter have a look and issue a cert. anyway - let the buyer pay for it !

You don't have to have the certificate to sell it.  I bought my P38a without a certificate, to my cost.

The cert is just a piece of paper anyway, it proves nowt.  We had one for Blue when we first bought it, brand new cert and all.  Looks llke the cert was the only new thing in the LPG conversion and that was from a large independant in west Yorks

That's why I know so much about LPG now, no choice but to learn

i sold my old landy to a guy with no lpg cert. (i was completly open with him, and he picked it up a week after viewing). He called me up a bout 2 months later saying he had trouble insuring it, i was with firebond before, so sent him their way. also said that even though i never had a cert, it should only cost him about £50 (at least according to peoples post on here). Have not heard back from him, so assume he got it sorted.

Saying that, I would not buy another gas car without a cert.
