Hi Muddys,
I know there is a problem with leaking sunroofs on disco's but whats the cure?? or should i say the fault..And how do you over come it with out mastic etc?
Cheers Ali

well mine was not the sunroof glass but the mount it sits in to the roof i gave up and mastic,d it i believe if you have the headlining down there are some screws which hold the outer ring to the roof which may need tightening
or the rubber needs some vaseline to make it more supple and seal better or the roof has lifted the seal out of its groove when it was laste opened , they have a habit of sticking to the glass

Remove glass, clean thoroughly.
Clean seat rubber with rubber cleaner.
Refit glass, taking care to make certain that it seats evenly.
Tighten hinges, and if you are lucky, that's it for another few years.
If it's the frame that's the problem.
Check behind head lining, to make sure it's tightened down.
Check drain channels.
If the frame has distorted, start checking the breakers for another.
they are damned near impossible to straighten.
Pete.

If its the tilting type thats removable I have 3 solutions
a) sometimes if its been removed a bit roughly or the hinge is a little rusty it can bend preventing the glass seating correctly. bending the hinge back can cure it
b) get some black silicone and some cooking oil, apply a thin bead of silicone sealant around the seal where the glass sits, clean the seal up first with some wet and dry paper or a brillo pad. Then dip your finger in the cooking oil and put a coating of oil where the seal will sit when the roof is closed on the glass, this stops the mastic sticking to the glass. Then refit the glass and close the sunroof but not too tightly. The mastic will mould itself to the glass and the seal and when dry and will stick to the seal and not the glass so you can still open it. Dont use too much oil as if it runs onto the silicone it wont dry.
c) get a metal panel and weld it over the suroof then buy 10 cartidges of mastic and cover the roof with it at a thickness of about 2mm.

get rid of it! they all leak!!

I have had the same problem recently. I bought a new seal and still it leaked. I got hold of some black bitumus mastic and seated the new seal into it, after first running a bead of mastic around the rim of the roof where the seal sits. I then for added measure run a bead of mastic around the new seal about half way up pulling the seal away from the roof as I went. It now stays water tight and the sun roof opens. I am going to do the rear one soon.

mine has started to leak but only if the front is facing up hill si i think the drain hole must be blocked(do they have drains at the rear off the roof?)

 ive already got half the mastic factory around my sunroofs and they still leak
