Title: Chr**tmas Village
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on December 17, 2006, 23:57:27
As most of the time-served regulars on here know I absolutely despise chr**tmas (even more than I do f**tball, & that's saying something)

However
SWMBO & myself took 'small-child' & a few of her school-friends (they, & parents, met us there) to the Yorkshire Farming Museum at Murton Park on Saturday.
After paying the entry fees (£4.50 & £5.50), we were all met as a group by a 6'4" 'Elf'
All the 'actors' involved were either a local Theatre group, or a 'care in the community' collective (my reasoning)

He proceeded to take us on a wonderful tour of the dark-age village that they have

We were treated to, amongst other things;
A visit to the blacksmith, who was making new runners for the sleigh & snow-shoes for the Reindeer.

The Reindeers classoom (wooden Reindeer) learning about landing on roofs

Loading the sleigh

Fairy Liquids birthday &  1st flying lesson (gives her a box of Milk Tray, then some yells "Chocs Away" & they get pinched  )
She runs off jumping up & down behind the huts, loads of bangs & the inevitable tins come rolling into view

A present wrapping machine!? It gets jammed  & one puts his arm in to unjam it. He shrieks & it come out gift-wrapped

Elf cinema, showing 'Gnome Alone'

Plus other subtle (or not so subtle) concoctions.

All together the Elf village took about 40minutes to get through
(we were there almost 3 hours in total)

Then there's a train ride on the 1/2 mile or so of track they have, where the kids get a pressie from the 'man in red'
They're surprisingly good as well, Amelia got a large colouring set (crayons. pencils & felt-tips)
Adults got Mince-Pies, Sherry (or Orange-Juice)

Then there's the farm & machinery collection to look at

It only opens the Elf-village at weekends,so if you live around Yorkshire, try & get there next weekend.
Your kids will love it. I guarantee it (no refunds from me though, if they don't)

Murton Park (http://www.murtonpark.co.uk/)

Santa Special (http://www.murtonpark.co.uk/html/santa_specials.html)

By The Way, I still hate chr**tmas in spite of this recommendation

The only shopping I enjoy is Lincoln Christmas market.  Take Friday off work and go early, before it gets busy.

I eat more than I buy, but hell who cares.  The atmosphere is great though, fantastic.

Other than that it's whatever is left at the filling station on Christmas eve.  I though shops were supposed to be trying to get us to spend money, I make no wonder they are bitching about low taking when they all shut so damned early on the last shopping day before the sales IE Christmas eve.  Anyone who has to work that day gets home aftert he shops have shut.

Ah, excellent! I am not alone   May I quote you to my wife? She thinks I'm the only miserable old sod on the planet   Sorry, Richard. I would never acuse you of being a miserable old sod really!

I do wonder just how many people even stop for one moment to consider what it is all about. I find it quite insulting to those who truly believe when every Tom, Dick and Harry suddenly 'celebrates' the birth of Christ when they have no inclination to religion for the rest of the year. I am not a believer myself, but I respect peoples right to their beliefs and all this commercial nonsence we get combined with the misuse of the celebration annoys me. Not that you would have guessed!!!

Steve, please do quote me.

I could give The Grinch a few pointers.
I still tell everyone that Dr Seuss ruined a superb story by giing him chest-pains & going all sickly, cloying & sentimental

Same with Dickens :x
Why spoil Ebeneezer, he's doing great until those damn ghosts appear
(best version = Patrick Stewart)

Roll on January 2nd, when all of the cr*p's over with

If they can ban Fox-hunting & cut Green-Laning to the bone, why can't that over-indulgance that goes by the name of chr**tmas be also banned??

Oi! Blair!!
Ban the man in the red hoodie!!!!

Quite agree, lets celebrate the true meaning of Yule without all this Christian mumble jumble that's been tacked on to it (http://mudlark.info/images/smileys/eusa_whistle.gif) (http://mudlark.info/images/smileys/eusa_whistle.gif) (http://mudlark.info/images/smileys/eusa_whistle.gif) (http://mudlark.info/images/smileys/eusa_whistle.gif) (http://mudlark.info/images/smileys/eusa_whistle.gif) (http://mudlark.info/images/smileys/eusa_whistle.gif) (http://mudlark.info/images/smileys/eusa_whistle.gif) (http://mudlark.info/images/smileys/eusa_whistle.gif)
