Title: No Diff Lock ?
Post by: Horness on December 18, 2006, 13:41:07
I needed to use Diff Lock over the weekend, which worked fine a couple of weeks ago - however now, the gear knob will not go over at all.  Low box works fine.

Any idea's?  It was stiff when I bought the Disco 5 years ago, but as I use it for shooting etc. at least twice a week, the low/diff lock knob was free and easy to use.

Sounds like you have a stone trapped. Even if it had become disconnected, it would still move. The only other thing it could be, is it's seized.

Great news.     It was working fine, and for the last 2-3 years not been hard to engage at all.  Now, not even with 2 hands will it move.

Cheers Chris.

I agree with Chris, I went on a quarry fun day in my last disco and couldn't disengage diff lock, upon inspection the lever on the back of the box had half a quarry ramming it in the on position, a crow bar soon sorted it out though, if it isn't that then I don't know!!

The place I've been shooting on lately is quite stony on the approach, which could explain it.  It's really slippery once through the woodland, and I don't fancy getting stuck and going back for the tractor.

Thanks guys.  I'll check it out.

Hi, had the same problem on my 300 when I bought it despite the chap assuring me that it all worked !
DONT FORCE IT, you will bend the little pin that connects the lever to the box. You can access it from inside by removing the boot etc. Then you can see what the damage is. Its only a tiny arm that is connected to the lever, I dont think there are any outside components ??  A new one is not that expensive.
