ive heard about people fitting monado alternators, ill try and find some more about for u
-
That sounds very good value.
The current new one you can get is the 45 amp one as per the LR90.
Or you can get the HD one from the 90 110 range at 65 amps. and that will be around 70 quid from the likes of craddocks. The main thing to check is that the connectors on the back match. I know that the 90 / 110 ones match as they both have the A-115 meaning the connectors are right, and also they were offerd on the early 2.25's so the mounts must fit as there is no alternative mount given in the parts book.

im running the 3 electric points fitment atm, but can always re-wire, can't find much on the tinternet so far!

You can pick up an ex-Range Rover 65 amp one for a lot less than that on E-Blag, I wouldn't want to run much more than that freom a standard vee blet. I have an 80 amp one that can eat a stock belt in an afternoon so I run an extra wide one.
If you want one with the blade connections on the back rather than terminals try a MkII fiesta or MkIv Escort for a 55 amps Bosch or Lucas unit, the Lucas can be spun round to mount either way too. Again don't be paying £50 for it unless it's reconn.

Cheers for info but already got an fitted the 70 amp one!
Can charge battery even with all lights, sound system and kenlowe going so will do me fine! yeah it was like £55 but straight forward fitting, same 3 pin fitment and nice shiny new part!
Anyway as if classic motoring is about saving money or being economic? hahaha
Happy Christmas one and all!

If it's new/recon with some guarantee that's a bit different, not a bad price at all as it cost £50 to get my 80 amp recon'd (and it needs to go back).
-
Yeah was £55 ish brand new and shiny with a year guarantee, i love hearing it kick into life when it needs to suck more electricity from the lump! mixture of alternator whirring and weber sucking is great!
How often u need ur alternator recon'd then?
-
Well I had something on it replaced last year but when the car was parked up this summer it went wrong, I think the brushes stuck but it got fried in the end so I had it reconned, now the lights flash and it's getting annoying
-
Ah classic! do you have much extra electronics sucking more power than usual then? i never hear much of people changing alternators to match extra lights and such like
-
I think the previous owner had a winch and bumper that he kept, the front bumper is a home made affair in very very thick steel. I have extra lights, compressor and electric seats, twin Kenlowes etc so I like the big alternaotr. I also have a removable winch and twin batteries.

For info.
Mark 1 F'ester alternators are a straight fit to a series, and 70A as they had that "Huge" heated rear screen.
At most, all you need is to push the spacer tube through one of the leg's a bit. The advantage of using them, is the wiring and connector is identical to the Series 3 part. I know, as I've changed several like that over the years.
The bearings are easy to replace (with sealed units) but the brush's are rare, so if you find one, check them before anything else.
No doubt there are 100's of others that will do.

That sounds like a right bargain! My 70 amp can still charge the battery when idle'ing with all lights on full beam and a monsterous sound system blarring, and just about handles it when the kenlowe fan is on aswell!
