Hi All
Santa is getting me a new CB for my Disco this year :D
I am going to mount it in the map pocket above the drivers side windscreen, but do not know the best place for the aerial and the best size.
My defender had it mounted on the roof but I found that it was forever fouling on low trees etc when laning. :(
If I was to fit it at the rear on the bumper would I still get good reception? :?
I have seen a combined CB and Radio aerial, Are they any good or just a gimmick. 8)
Cheers Taz

Hi Taz...i got a gutter mount on my Disco , mounted it near enough between the two doors , level with the pillar. Got the whole lot from Thunderpole out of one of the landy mags.
Have also used a couple of tie-wraps to hold the antenna onto the roof bar. Just stops it getting pinged off if you hit a tree. Been off-roading loads and it works a treat.
Will get a couple of photos on here later for ya! OK bud?.....Andy

I had my old disco's antenna bolted through the roof, just behind the interior light, I used a rightangled coax lead to the connector (to save space) and wired the cb directly to the interior light supply. Very neat.

It does, or would if I didn't have a roofrack on there.
I need a new aerial in there really as the whip is a bit loose and not too got on the SWR at the moment so I may try to find somthing a little thicker that wont whip as much.
On Discoweb, where I first saw it, they were using a Firestick on the there, which is an option for me as there's not trees up here!!

used to have a 'disguised' cb aerial on my old Metro  .. wasnt as good as a proper 'twig' but not as bad as you'd think - only problem is th 1st one doesnt retract at all, so as bad as a proper full size cb 'twig'

I have started to fit my shiney new CB into my Disco.
I am fitting it in the map pocket above the windscreen and getting power from the interior light.
Does anyone know which wire is which as I have wired it in but every time the door opens the CB goes off. :?
Cheers Taz

You maybe better running a new wire up behind the A-post cover on the side of the windscreen into the roof to power it as the interior lights don't draw much power and thus the wires are quite thin. It's safer to run a new wire to save frying the wiring for your interior lights!

I mounted mine between the driver seat and the centre glove box as all the cables are hidden under the seat and for power I put a ciggarette lighter socket on the end with a split in it to plug in my phone or sat nav charger if needs to be. For the ariel I have a wire which I put up out the door to the ariael (when not used the ariel sits on the floor between driver and passenger seats under the rubber mats so out of sight) and then when I need the ariel I clamp it to the roof rack mounts that run length ways along the disco. Never had a problem with the squelch meter doing this.
I got fantastic advise and all my bits from 4x4cb or cb4x4. They were excellent and the cheapest around too. Cant praise them highly enough.

Stuck my antenna smack on top of my roof rack. Brill performance, just learn to live with it smashing trees etc. Only ever lost one, they usually just bend at the springy bit above the mount.
Anyway, If the tree branches were any lower I'de be worried about ripping the roof rack off so an antennae is least of my worries
Wiring goes into a main feed in the box under the drivers side dash.
-
If it's really overgrown I tie mine back wards with chord, it stops it whipping over and hitting the roof.
-
Decided not to fit above screen - Too much messing with cabling :?
Ended up fitting to side of center gear console and picked up live from just behind the fuse box.
Fitted aerial to rear drivers side corner and hid cable behind top window trim down to the seat then hid under carpet and fed under the drivers seat to the CB. Looks neat enough. 8)
Just a word of caution - anyone thinking of drilling a hole in the rear corner, check that you can get behind (Inside)
The first hole I drilled was too low and went into a closed cavity. :x
Managed to hide it with a cool decal 8)
Will post piccies ASAP
Keep on Pluggin

hi m8 im a radio ham and i would personally mount your whip on the front bumper as you wont get as much reflection from you back door if u mount it on ur rear bumper, which could in effect cause an higher swr and damage your cb, reception will still b as good as roof mounting because your aerial uses ur car as a ground therefore basically ur car is ur recieving aerial

You need to put the "img" codes round the link like this:

But the code doesn't like URL's with =, ? or __ in it and doesn't work.
I use http://www.photobucket.com to store my photos, it free and the coding is attached to each photo, so you just copy & paste.

just a quick note here. I have put insulating tape over the end of the arial as I found as it whipped the roof it has scrathced the roof and it is rusting a bit now where it has scratched. Hopefully the rust wont spread as it is only small scratches :?
