Title: Alloy Wheel Cleaner ?
Post by: John T on December 23, 2006, 22:32:25: Can anyone recommend a good alloy wheel cleaner - I've just bought myself a 2001 TD5 Disco, it's cleaned up really well apart from the wheels. They're the 18" 5 spoke jobs but I don't think they have ever been cleaned and have years of baked on brake dust. I've tried today using jif but it's taken me all afternoon to do 1/2 a wheel :cry:

Any suggestions appreciated.

Not cheap (up to a tenner for a large bottle) - comes with black cap and brush, but it is simply the best alloy wheel cleaner.

It's won the Auto Express wheel cleaning award for god knows how many years now.

Are all Land Rover alloys laquered?

but just in case if you clean them then rinse them off using plenty of alcohol - like unused Christmas spirits - the alcohol will neutralise the acid :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Post by: waveydavey on December 24, 2006, 08:19:04: Tesco do an Alloy Wheel brush at at couple of quid, quite stiff and shaped to get inside. Eve if it can't get them clean it's very good for keeping them clean when you have got the crud off.

Agitate it with a brush, ans then wash away with soapy water
Tip
Only clean one wheel at a time.
It will kill your wheels if you leave it on :wink:

I Use my little Nephew :twisted: spends hours on the landy and all for a pack of chewits :lol:

Post by: bezzabsa on December 24, 2006, 14:03:17: we use 'ELBOW GREASE' dont laugh - its a greeny-yellow liquid that comes in a spray bottle from local pound shop - spray it on, leave about a minute and wash off with soft brush... did the old discos wheels front and back (the side that NEVER gets cleaned ) and came up like new!! also great for cleaning caravans

Post by: Range Rover Blues on December 24, 2006, 16:27:54: Muck off is good for mud, wonder wheels for brake dust. If it's been there a while don't expect miracles though. If ythey come up nice, polish them straight after.
