Title: water system 300tdi

top hose on are disco is not seem to be getting hot have changed the themostat and its stayin the same the over day took the headertank lid off and the water had all backed up and was comeing out when you took the lid off but we bled the system agen and it seems to be fine but top hose still aint hot.
could we run it with out a themostat and would this do any damage?

the top of hose on mine matty takes for everrrrrrrrrrrr to get hot also and ive changed the thermostat too

Sounds like an air lock, did you make sure the heater was on hot when you bled it Matt?

Thing is is it getting too hot when you drive?

Could be the hose is full of air, they are a swine sometimes.

I wouldn't leave it withour a thermostat for long in this weather, especially on short journeys but as a diagnosis you can.

Maybe the rad is getting blocked.

At idle the heater matrix will do a good job of keeping the engine cool.

when driveing the temp gage sits in the normal spot and in the same place as it dose on my dads work disco but after a run in my dads the top hose is hot but a run in my mums its cold

Well I'd say if it's not bust, don't fix it.  It may be as simple as there is air in the top hose, as long as it's not an excessive amount then don't worry, or try crushing the hose as you bleed it, but if the guage is normal when driving then things are working fine.
