This is a 300 TDI and the top pulley is making an awful squeak. Applying WD40 makes it go away for a few minutes spray on grease a little longer.
I guess a bearing has gone. It's the smaller diameter pulley - easy to change?

check its not the belt that needs changing first my 300 had an awful squeak and it was the belt a new one cured it
if its the top belt tensioner that needs doing yes its an easy job to change the whole thing or you can re-bearing the old one if you want to

Given that getting some WD40 into the pulley bearing seems to shut it up it seems most likely it's the bearing.
Also since posting I find you can buy just the bearing - once again: Easy job to change just the bearing?

most 300tdi's seem to have a squeek.. think its par for the course!
was told when I had my disco to use talc - as it sits in the grooves and quietens it down.
-
are disco was doing it till we changed the belt

You can get just the bearing for under a £10 on ebay replace the belt as well just to be sure - its quite an easy job about 1hr total
-
just make sure you get a genuine gates belt, alot better and wont squeek after 10 miles like other belts
