Title: Squeaking pulley
Post by: drmike on January 01, 2007, 16:44:28
This is a 300 TDI and the top pulley is making an awful squeak. Applying WD40 makes it go away for a few minutes spray on grease a little longer.

I guess a bearing has gone. It's the smaller diameter pulley - easy to change?

check its not the belt that needs changing first my 300 had an awful squeak and it was the belt a new one cured it
if its the top belt tensioner that needs doing yes its an easy job to change the whole thing or you can re-bearing the old one if you want to

Given that getting some WD40 into the pulley bearing seems to shut it up it seems most likely it's the bearing.

Also since posting I find you can buy just the bearing - once again: Easy job to change just the bearing?

most 300tdi's seem to have a squeek.. think its par for the course!
was told when I had my disco to use talc - as it sits in the grooves and quietens it down.
